List of U.S. Companies Who Offer Relocation & Housing Packages to Employees

Moving around the country can be a really expensive undertaking. I mean, all of it. Food, gas, lodging, breaking leases and/or 1st/last/security at your new house. This is not taking into account if you need to sell your home and pay closing costs. It's also not including the prospect of changing jobs. Needless to say, there's A LOT that goes into moving. God forbid you also have a family and children, you see where I'm going with this, right?

OK so? What's the solution? How do we even move? Do we just stay at our current home in our current city and never experience anything new? There are ways to make it all happen. Have you ever considered shopping for a new job? Not just any job, a job that comes with a relocation package. Many such jobs will pay for everything from closing costs to professional movers and storage.

So, how do you find these unicorn companies offering housing and relocation assistance? Well, i thought you'd never ask! We've compiled a list of companies to get you started. The companies listed below have relocation packages. You'll notice specific details are often on a very case-by-case basis. Some of these companies have sections of their site dedicated to listing out all of the specifics. For other companies, they keep it vague and it will require you to do some online research.

Anyhow, let's get started!

3M

3M offers multiple types of housing and moving assistance to their employees.

  • Relocation Assistance to employees who are willing to relocate. The relocation assistance includes short-term housing for up to a month, food allowances, and some transportation reimbursement.
  • Corporate Lodging - 3M will also provide furnished corporate rentals in the form of furnished apartments or extended stays for staff on temporary assignment.
  • Rental & Lease Reimbursement – 3M will cover up to two months’ worth of rent to cover lease breaks at your current apartment or home rental.

A direct-bill program through 3M-preferred national lenders is also available.

AbbVie

AbbVie offers both housing and relocation assistance to eligible employees. Please note, not all employees are eligible for assistance. • Moving Related Costs – AbbVie will cover professional moving services, storage of your personal items at a professional and secure storage facility, and in some cases transportation reimbursement.

Abbott Laboratories

Abbott offers moving and relocation assistance to certain employees, in addition to the longlist of other benefits.

It should be noted that there are a few websites online that state Abbott offers a large selection of relocation, moving, transportation, and even spousal employment assistance. However, I was unable to verify any of them from the abbott.com domain or official handbook. These claims were located on job boards and various career websites. For this reason, these unverified benefits were not included in the list below.

  • Relocation – ALEC is the relocation service that Abbott has partnered with. You can read about them or submit a request for more info on the relocation program at this link.
  • Intern Housing & Transportation – Interns can enjoy both paid housing for up to 6 months and paid transportation in the form of car rentals or taxi/uber reimbursements. Utilities and internet are also included.

Amazon offers a fantastic program for new hires and interns alike. Comprehensive relocation and housing benefits are offered to support employees transitioning to new work locations. These benefits are designed to alleviate the financial and logistical challenges associated with moving.

Amazon provides their employees with a couple of different relocation options. First, they offer a one-time lump-sum payment option of between $20k and $40k depending on the specific circumstances of the specific employee. The other option is a “comprehensive relocation package”. This basically covers the entire moving process using a 3rd party contractor(s). This includes moving, transportation of belongings, finding new housing, ETC.

It should be noted that lower level warehouse employees and drivers are not eligible for most of the relocation benefits.

  • Temporary Housing – Amazon has furnished temporary housing assistance for new hires who are willing to relocate. This is typically only for corporate employees. Delivery drivers and warehouse workers are not eligible for this package.
  • Packing, moving, and storage – Amazon will offer assistance in the form of cash payments or moving service package via a 3rd party moving company. This includes anything such as packing your household items, moving it across country in a van or truck, and even storage unit costs.

Honeywell International

Honeywell does offer relocation to employees. However, I am unable to locate specific details on any of the Honeywell web properties. The only specific details comes from 3rd party career and job sites. I don’t want to list any specifics here on relocation unless it’s coming directly from the horses mouth, so to say.

Intel

Yes, Intel does offer employee relocation packages. However, at the time of this writing the specific details are not very specific. There are job websites where users discuss the package in detail on discussion forums and comment sections. However, I don’t want to add hearsay to this document. So, for that reason, I am leaving the specific details off.

JP Morgan Chase

JP Morgan offers a strong housing and pay package for interns which includes housing stipends. It is unclear what the specifics are regarding the relocation benefits. There are discussions on various sites and forums where employees and ex-employees discuss specifics. However, I am unable to locate any concrete benefit details from any JP Morgan website. So, for that reason, I am not including it in this document. If you do some Google searches, you will find these discussions I am speaking of. Good luck!

Johnson & Johnson

The details and specifics of JnJ’s relocation program are fairly sparse. I am unable to locate any details on their employment page. It should be noted some of their employee pages are behind a login wall which I can’t access. You will have to do your own research about their housing options by reading online discussions or contacting their career department.

You can tell by reading discussion threads on sites like reddit, indeed, and Glassdoor that Johnson and Johnson does offer low-levels of assistance. It appears from browsing these online discussions that anyone below senior level is typically offered $2000 - $10,000 to relocate, with some strings attached.

Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin does offer a relocation package, although the specifics of it are hard to come by. The best info on this topic you can find is secondhand information posted to sites like AnandTech and reddit from current employee discussions. But yes, they do offer relocation assistance. The specific details of their relocation assistance are not available on any of the Lockheed Martin web properties.

Marathon Petroleum

Marathon, like most energy companies, offer a very juicy relocation package for both interns and employees. The details of this relocation package are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Interns must relocate to a new residence for the internship to qualify for the allowance.
  • Interns who remain in their current housing or under existing lease agreements are not eligible.
  • Interns securing new housing in the same city as their educational institution are eligible only if the new lease begins within 30 days of the internship start date and the residence is maintained throughout the internship.

Application Process

  • Interns must complete and submit the Co-op and Intern Employees Relocation Form no more than 30 days before, and no later than 60 days after, their internship start date.

Additional Information

  • The relocation allowance is subject to federal, state, and local taxes, with no additional tax assistance provided.
  • While MPC offers financial assistance, interns are responsible for finding and securing their own housing.

This program is designed to ease the transition for interns while ensuring they have financial support to settle into their new location.

Merck

Employees and interns do get housing and relocation assistance. However, other than online discussion forums and job boards, details are sparse. Like other companies above, I am not going to add secondhand information here. So, you’ll have to do some Google searches and come to your own conclusion, or contact them directly with relocation questions.

Microsoft

Microsoft has relocation and housing for employees and interns. However, specific details on the packages from Microsoft are surprisingly few and far between. However, there are a lot of public discussions on forums and job websites. You’re going to need to defer to these discussions and piece together the overall picture.

Raytheon Technologies

Yes, Raytheon offers relocation packages to employees. However, the details are not given on their public facing employment page, other than to acknowledge they do indeed have a relocation package.

If you read around the internet, there are discussions where people share their Raytheon relocation offers with one another. Some examples below. For what it’s worth, most of the user discussions are similar and positive. I didn’t see any negative takes and complaints.

  • Teamblind.com – This individual got full-service movers, 60 days of storage, lodging reimbursement for the drive, 14 nights paid at an extended stay hotel, $2k cash for miscellaneous expenses, $61 per day for food for their drive to the new location, and they also agreed to pay the lease-break fee at his old apartment.
  • Reddit User – This person was offered $3,000. Then, they were allowed to choose between 3 months of corporate housing or a $7,000 lump sum payment. In addition, Raytheon paid to ship his vehicle and pay any closing costs if they decided to purchase a home in their new city.
  • Reddit User 2 – This user had a similar experience as the one above. Raytheon agreed to pretty much pay for anything and everything relating to moving. This includes closing costs, professional movers, hotels, food, rental cars, plane tickets, ETC.

Tesla

Tesla offers relocation for employees and they also offer housing for interns at Gigafactory Nevada.

Other than the brief text you see on the intern page, there aren’t many relocation or housing specifics on Tesla-owned websites. Like many of the companies above, a lot can be learned from reading some of the online discussions. It sounds like you can expect to get $5,000 - $30,000 in relocation benefits if you decide to take a new job with Tesla. I’ll paste a few of the discussions below, for your convenience.

  • Teamblind.com – One person in this thread got offered $5,000 and one got offered $30,000.
  • Teamblind.com – This user was offered $10,000.
