MileIQ
Miliage, Gas, and Expense Tracker
MileIQ is a very useful mileage tracking app for business drivers. If you travel by road and need to keep track of mileage, gas, taxes or expenses, you should check out this app.
Once set up, the app uses GPS to log trips and records them automatically. If you have multiple employees, you can track all mileage within a central dashboard and can quickly calculate mileage and cost for tax or reimbursement.
The app is well-designed and easy to use.
A lot happens automatically so there’s very little for you to do. Simply open the app, tell it to track or not track and make your journey as you usually would.
iTranslate
Language Translator
If you travel internationally, there’s nothing quite like knowing a few words of the local language. iTranslate can help with that.
Knowing a little local lingo can make a huge difference to the quality of service you receive and the professional impact you make on clients. It also helps you navigate, eat, drink and enjoy your travels a little more.
iTranslate can translate over 100 languages. It supports voice communications, text-to-speech and has a Google Lens-style camera translation tool.
You can even create your own phrasebooks and flashcards to help you learn a little of the language without depending on the app. It’s very useful!
FLIO
Flight Tracker & Flight Management App
FLIO is a great little flight app. It tracks your flights, lets you know of gate changes or delays, reminds you of boarding times and can even tell you which belt to claim your baggage.
You can use the app to manage boarding passes, connect to airport Wi-Fi and navigate many key international airports with maps.
There are also exclusive deals for restaurants, stores, concierge services and luggage protection too if you want them.
If you rack up the air miles for work and want a single app to manage everything, FLIO is well worth checking out. We would use it for the airport maps alone!
HotelTonight
Find Hotels Below Market Rate
HotelTonight is for last minute business trips or for when your booked accommodation falls through for some reason. It’s a room finder for last minute bookings and is pretty good at what it does.
It’s no Booking.com but it has access to hotels, prices, price history and a smart room filter so you can select your preferred accommodation type.
Listings include hotel details, images, amenities and, most importantly, reviews.
The app is easy to use and delivers the convenience you might need if you’re a spontaneous traveler or need to make a last minute trip and need to book on the move.
Evernote
Note Taking App
Evernote should need very little introduction to small businesses. It’s the #1 note taking app out there and is a staple of most offices.
It’s a very versatile app that can help manage your digital life. It can capture notes, record ideas and inspiration for every walk of your private and professional life.
It can also search your notes, add tags for simple sorting and share notes across users or devices.

Attending a seminar or tradeshow? Use CamCard to share your business card digitally with others. You can also share it via email, social media or other digital means too.
Business cards are still very relevant and are essential for sharing contact details. CamCard just brings them into the modern era by leaving the card behind and going digital.
Workfrom
Find Places to Work & Free WiFi Map
- iOS – N/A ⭐
- Android – N/A ⭐
Workfrom is an incredibly useful resource for anyone that works out of the office. It’s a database of laptop-friendly spaces around the world where you can plug in and do a little work while you’re away.
It’s a website rather than an app but it’s so useful, we had to include it. Log onto the site, enter your location into the search or let the site use location and it will find you places to work.
Listings include a map, address, directions and maybe even the Wi-Fi login username and password. There are also notes added by fellow travelers to let you know what you’re getting into.
Expensify
Expense Management
Expensify is arguably one of the most important apps the business traveler needs. It’s an app-based expenses management platform that lets you create, manage, track and monitor expenses.
You can scan or take a picture of a receipt and the app will turn it into an expense claim. It can extract information like the date, merchant and amount and create a claim for you.
There’s also reporting and tracking of expenses, ideal if you work per diem or set budgets for meals per day.
There’s also a travel management aspect to Expensify but it isn’t as feature rich as the expenses part.
GasBuddy
Cheap Gas Locator
GasBuddy is an essential app for those of you who drive around the country for work. It helps you find the cheapest gas and best stations wherever you are in the continental United States.
Search by price or location and see where to find the cheapest gas. The app also includes a trip cost calculator, fuel logbook and other useful tools.
It’s simple, effective and is regularly updated to keep up with price changes.
While you may not be concerned with prices if you’re not paying, knowing where the next gas stop is can be a lifesaver. Satnav is pretty good but it isn’t always perfect. GasBuddy is a reliable extra resource.
Shoeboxed
Tracking & Organizing Business Expenses
Shoeboxed is a smart expense management app designed to simplify the process of tracking and organizing travel and business expenses. It’s a smart app that takes the hard work out of travel.
It’s similar to Expensify in that it helps track expenses, lets you photograph receipts and submit them for expenses, monitor costs, track mileage and create reports on expenses over time.
If you’re a freelancer or work on your own, Shoeboxed also provides a receipt management service where you can mail in your receipts for processing. We’re not sure how many of you would use this service but it’s there if you want it!
ExpressVPN
Secure Internet Connection & Privacy Tool
ExpressVPN is one of the biggest names in VPNs and is another business travel essential. If you’re going to be using airport or coffee shop Wi-Fi, you need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to keep your work private.
The app has a user-friendly interface for mobile and desktop devices, allowing you to connect with a single click. Connections are fast and shouldn’t impact productivity in any way.
ExpressVPN has servers in 105 countries, includes ad blockers, tracking cookie blockers, and its own password manager to help keep your data safe. It uses 256-bit encryption, which is industry standard, ready to keep you safe while on the road.
Dayuse.com
Find Cheap Hotels for Day Use (naps, showers, ETC)
Dayuse.com is an interesting app. At first glance, an app that lets you rent a hotel room by the hour would be for a completely different audience, but Dayuse.com is purely for business travelers.
It specializes in finding hotel rooms for use during the day or by the hour. It’s purely for a quick nap or somewhere to work for a few hours before moving on and works incredibly well.
The app lets you browse hotels, select time slots, and enjoy amenities like spas, gyms, and meeting rooms. You can browse or search by location and book through the app or direct, whichever you prefer.
