Team Member Spotlight: Anwar Musa, Director of Supplier Relations
Here at Engine, we believe a company is only as extraordinary as its people. We’ve dedicated ourselves to improving the lives of business travelers but want to show off the people who help make that happen. Every month, we’ll be doing a Q&A with one of our amazing team members to showcase the folks behind the scenes of Engine.
Our very own Anwar Musa joined us in 2018 as the lead of the Supplier Relations team. His extensive hotel industry experience and his efforts in creating lasting partnerships with our hotel partners have directly impacted the amazing variety of inventory that we offer our members. So, let’s get to know Anwar a little bit more!
Where are you from?
I'm from Detroit, MI.
Do you have a nickname at work?
Not that I’m aware of, but let’s hope it’s positive if I do!
What’s your favorite part about your team?
My team is full of folks with good attitudes who treat our hotel partners with the same hospitality they show their guests.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
A lion-turtle. One, because anyone who knows what that is right away is someone I need to talk to in more detail. Second, they’re nerdy and awesome.
What do you love about working for Engine?
I love that we’re solving problems that have existed in the hotel industry for decades, and I enjoy being challenged on a daily basis.
What do you think is unique about working at HE?
Engine is extremely diverse. We have diverse backgrounds and ethnicities like most companies, but our team is diverse in our ideas, perspectives, and life experiences. I learn something new — professionally and personally — daily.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I am on the board of a charity (Children of Uganda), I am a mentor, and I volunteer in politics — and beyond all of that work, I love culinary arts and spend much of my downtime cooking.
Let’s hear it for your humble brag!
I make artisan sourdough loaves of bread weekly.
What’s your favorite HE value?
“Failure is success if we learn from it.” We live in a society where perfection is expected, but perfection is an illusion. So many people never find out what they’re capable of because they’re so afraid to fail. Humans learn by making mistakes. If we interrogate our failures, we can learn and grow from them.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
I love that there’s no humidity and no bugs in Colorado!
