This is the best hotel that we have stayed at. The amenities, staff, rooms, the spa, the adult pool, the food, the beach…all 5 stars! Swam with manta rays and did the longest running luau that was well done. Have been coming here since the 80’s and it only keeps getting better. We love the Mauna Kea and the Big Island of Hawaii.

The breakfast buffet is outstanding, offering an excellent selection of food, and the staff is always warm, welcoming, and attentive. Waking up to the breathtaking view of the beach and the crystal clear ocean is an experience that is truly hard to find anywhere else. We had another wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning next summer.

New rooms are back to beautiful wood.. new bathrooms .. Love the place first stay was in 1974..

Fantastic setting, beach, golf course, hiking trails, Manta rays, Manta breakfast, etc were top notch. Still some areas that need remodeling attention, ex rusted fire suppression pipes in lobby. Most importantly, the employee service level and attitudes were very spotty. Some were great, but many others were dismissive, seemed bothered to help, were not proactive in engaging and gave limited information. This applied specifically to the Concierge group, and the golf starter who was grouchy an rude.

Our room was meticulously cleaned daily and again, you can ask housekeeping for anything and they will respond to the request promptly. You won't find a better beach than the one at Mauna Kea Beach. It's an all sand beach as far as you can walk out into the ocean. I highly recommend the Mauna Kea Beach hotel and will return there in the future.

It was wonderful. The rooms were clean. We enjoyed the beach and the food was excellent.
-
The staff and food isnt quite up to what ths hotel deserves, but still good, i understand the limited pool of workers to draw from. But just outstanding!!
-
Room cleaned and clean towels twice a day. Family friendly, gentle ocean, cabanas, chairs and towels.

Don’t feel pleasant with the price we paid.
-
The best beach in the world - soft sand, warm water, just enough waves for gentle boogie boarding, and a beautiful coastline. Access to top quality restaurants and the best breakfast buffet.

The Mauna Kea has been the ultimate relaxing getaway for me for over 30 years now. Never disappoints…

We loved the room accommodations, but due to construction renovations the self parking was limited. Our golf view room would have been great, if not for the eyesore caused by valet parking all over the front of the hotel.
-
Gorgeous beach, strong cocktails, we had the best time soaking it all in. Only hiccup was the construction—balcony air wasn’t as breezy/fresh. Still, can’t wait to return. Big thanks to all the friendly staff
-
They have an Asian Art Collection worthy of a museum. This was out of our usual price range, a big splurge, and worth every penny. We are already trying to figure out how to swing it to go back next winter.
-
- beautiful building & room design and furnishings - the beach is wonderful. sandy entry, protected cove, great for distance swimming - friendly and helpful staff

The resort was not full because of the construction. It will be beautiful when completed. We enjoyed the ability to get a chair at the beach and pool. The construction didn’t bother us. We enjoyed our stay there very much.

We loved atating here for our first vacation to Hawaii! Staffbwas fantastic. Food was fabtastic! Will be coming here again!

Amazing stay at the Mauna Kea as always, the entire staff was kind and helpful and provided everything needed for a fantastic vacation. Small service details like two luggage holders, ample towels, water bottles, morning coffee stations etc. made us feel at home. The beach crew was exceptional, Victor went above and beyond to help us get started with the SUPs and enjoy all the beach amenities. The beach equipment being free now is a huge plus for us, it really made it carefree to enjoy whatever activities we wanted, whenever we felt like it. We knew about the construction in advance and it didn't affect our stay too much. Yes the un-renovated room was showing its age but still clean and comfortable. Food was ok but the menus need updating with more fresh/healthy and grab/go options like the Westin. All in all the Mauna Kea remains our favorite hotel on our favorite beach in Hawaii and we can't wait to return!
