Zero service from front desk, with the exception of Wade fixing the confusion. Bed never made, no fresh towels, no trash taken out. Nothing. Stayed 6 days and no room servicing at all. No breakfast. Closest option to JLG tarining, but I would make the drive next time and stay elsewhere.

The property was dirty and in ill repair. The staff was unprofessional and unhelpful.

Great location. Easy parking. The room was larger than I expected for an historic hotel. All furnishings new or in excellent condition. Looks recently renovated/redecorated. Completely modern bathroom with great shower. The shower is small due to the limited space in an old building but worked fine for me. Wish we had tried the restaurant. It looked good. The room was directly over the restaurant but I never heard any noise from the restaurant. WiFi signal worked in the hall but not in the room. That also meant the room phone didn’t work when I wanted to call the front desk about the WiFi. Online listings say that breakfast is included but it wasn’t even though there was an area near the lobby obviously meant for breakfast. The front desk apologized and said the website needed updating but didn’t offer any alternatives. It would have been helpful to know this before checking in.

Absolutely nothing Absolutely everything

The room was recovery cheaply and had what seemed to be thrift store furniture that did not fit well with the room. The AC could be changed to make it warmer.

The atmosphere of the restaurant/bar and outside is superior. We had an enjoyable conversation with staff. Booking .Com stated there was breakfast - there is not.

Beyond the rooms, the hotel’s attached pub and restaurant are standout features. The menu leans heavily on locally sourced ingredients, and you can taste the difference in every dish—from hearty classics to more inventive seasonal plates. It’s the kind of spot where both travelers and locals linger a little longer than planned. And then there’s the quaint bier garten, a charming outdoor nook perfect for unwinding. Whether you’re sipping a cold pint under string lights or enjoying small bites with friends, it adds a relaxed, communal vibe that rounds out the entire experience. If you’re looking for a stay that honors history while still feeling warm, welcoming, and deliciously modern, the James Buchanan Hotel delivers.

We only stayed here one night as a layover in between other locations. The room is small but comfortable. Our first room the air conditioning did not work and they moved as right away.

The problems we had were: 1 - Could never log onto WiFi, 2 - The restaurant was closed from Sat til Tues. Breakfast was never included, as stayed at time if reservations, 3 - We saw staff at time of check in and when I had to return after checkout to retrieve my wallet. We just felt alone because there were no staff members present.

Unique historic inn with lovely decor and interesting history. The staff were excellent and the bar/restaurant had delicious food and welcoming staff. Website advertised breakfast and they did offer a grab bag after we asked.

A little peculiar and old but very nice and special place. Feels like you stepped back in time, but I kind of think that’s the point. Our room was like an entire apartment and really exceeded our expectations. The pictures were really limited and did not do it justice. We had a lovely time though, and the food was actually really good at the restaurant.

There is no longer a breakfast offered. Update your online info as we would not have stayed there. Street traffic is very noisy n you are sleeping a few feet away. Restaurant was empty n did not have available food that was on menu. Not much in the town anymore just a noisy traffic town now. Beautiful history n well preserved but disappointing. If your town library is best thing going in the town, that says alot about the town.

Close to Whitetail The TV setup and my room heating both ran by remotes and NOTHING WORKED!!!! the Inn manager could not help because he could not understand my questions nor was he able to fix the problems, at 11 o’clock at night after a shower I realized that my room was not getting warm he wanted to switch my rooms but I was unpacked and showered, I should have asked him for a blanket but in my anger and his lack of underwing my English and the issues of not having a television to watch because I had no idea how to use the damn set up of the remote controls and the remote was not working for heat, he ran into a room grabbing another remote and in handing it to me it looked like it had a big bugger smashed on the top of remote, how gross he just looked at me smiling and shaking his head not knowing what to do with me! Then in morning came down for coffee and breakfast no coffee only Decaff?and the breakfast layout was sad and in the dark no English muffins bread or a bagel to be seen 2 big bottles of water but with caps that needed a bottle opener no cream pathetic just pathetic setup I’m not sure what I paid for it. I guess a cold bed and a hot shower. I guess that was the best part.

Clean historic rooms, the staff was friendly and fun, the breakfast could use a protein source instead of all carbs and fruit.

I called twice in the week leading up to our visit to confirm the sleeping arrangements for my son. I was told there was a full sized sofa and also a roll away bed. When we arrived the twin bed had a pad less than an inch thick, no extra sheets for it. I was able to add another mattress from a roll away after asking but the sofa was no where near big enough for anyone to sleep on. The temperature controls in the rooms are very confusing, not sure what actually worked the heat and what didn’t. The wall unit, at least in the bedroom area didn’t work at all, even when just trying to turn it on fan. The road noise is extremely loud and there could be curtains or blinds added to keep out light and some of the noise. The hot water was almost nonexistent in the shower and would change temperatures from hot to cold to scalding while trying to take a shower. We were als told twice that the room contained a microwave and planned and bought microwaveable food for our trip and then when we got to the room, noticed there was no microwave. It seems like the gentleman running the front desk could have bee more attentive to the questions I was asking, could have had sheets, roll away bed with decent mattress already in the room since I had called in advance and inquired and made a point to him that we would have a kid with us that would need the second bed. The housekeeping was attentive and provided anything we asked for. The bed was comfortable and the layout of the room was nice.
