Incredible Views! Truly Historic Place! Still operated by the original descendants of 8th Maine who served in the Civil War. Rustic but filled with Love!

I loved being in an old historic building and sitting on the porch, looking at the ocean was amazing. The outside shower was incredible. You have a great view of the ocean while washing your hair.

We loved the history of the Inn. The view was exceptional. This inn was built by civil war veterans as a reunion hall , is run by the descendants, on an island with spectacular ocean views, and still maintained in-the the original state with a guest registry starting in 1924 should all speak for itself. The rooms are spartan and if you’re looking for 5 star rooms, this is not the place for you. If you like history and appreciate the preservation and the significance behind the 8th Regiment, you will thoroughly enjoy your time.

The every night loud noise upstairs by the rooms was extremely annoying and disruptive. It seemed as if guest had no awareness of other guests sleeping as they carried on walking heavily, running, talking loudly, slamming doors and in some cases kids running up and down the hallway. One night I had to ask people to lower their voices.

The location was beautiful and close to both the beach and town. Lovely views. The floor in our bedroom was very sandy and the beds we pretty uncomfortable.

Staying here felt like a well-equipped home away from home surrounded by friendly family of all ages. A lively sea breeze constantly blew gently through our window, beds were comfortable and location right next to and overlooking the sparkling ocean while we relaxed with a game of Scrabble, ping-pong or reading undisturbed on the wraparound deck was blissful to me and my friend. This short stay fed our souls. Dawn, the property manager, was a wealth of historical knowledge with a natural story-teller’s delivery, charm & wit. She kept a very close watch on everything and made sure all rules were observed. We felt safe and cared for. A very special & unique place with very good people. There was nothing to be done about this I don’t believe but I loved taking a relaxing bath in the old clawfoot tub on the second floor. However, there was a sign on the tub stating to be careful not to make the tub water level anywhere near the overflow valve since if you did water would come down through the lightbulb of the men’s room bathroom below.A scary thought to say the least… This meant I couldn’t be even close to submerged yet I still enjoyed myself. If the water level could have been deeper I would have been much happier. That’s it.

Beautiful oceanfront views! Wonderful building, quaint rooms, it’s like visiting and staying in a museum!

I really liked the old fashioned charm: rocking chairs on the wraparound porch where you can look out over the water, the dining room where you get your own 1/2 a frig and 2 burners and a table and there are dishes and all you need to cook your meals there, the reading room, A bedside lamp for reading would be nice

It exceeded expectations. It is just a short walk from the ferry, very spacious and quiet. I traveled with friends but it would work great for a couple or family as well. It had a sleep-away-camp vibe, but in the very best way! Our room was very large, beds were comfortable, and the shared spaces {bathroom, main floor area, porch, dining room} were clean, nice and had lots of signs to ensure that everything was taken care of and ran smoothly. It is located right on the water.. you cannot beat the view!! I can't wait to visit again! Loved it all.

- Not only is it a museum, but the building and interiors are also partly preserved from earlier times, giving you the feeling of being transported back in time. - I loved the outdoor shower. Showering with the view (and the smell) of the ocean and the islands is such a great way to start the day! - Isabella, the dog, was so sweet and greeted me every time I arrived at the door. - There’s a ping pong table (and plenty of board games) on the first floor. - The price was quite high for a shared bathroom accommodation. As a solo traveler, I am not sure whether I will do it again.
-
Host was so incredibly accomodating!! The views were out of this world! I'm a single mom, so the prices were a bit high for just one night.
-
the hostess was really nice and the view do not have words for that No AC

Throwback camp style lodging with private bedrooms and shared bathrooms/kitchen. Beautiful historic property right on the water and close to the center of town by the ferry. Not fancy, no TVs; but the friendly staff are a great resource for what to see and do on the island. Also you can do nothing, read, sit, talk, whatever. Nice vibes. Pillows were not comfortable.

The hospitality was excellent. The location was amazing!

Getting to the island is always a bit difficult but not too bad
-
Great location, island charm, great view, friendly guests

It’s historic and the location is excellent. There were a lot of stairs to go up and down. A little tiring for old ladies but we met great people and the view is excellent.
