No issues!

This property was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The lobby and check-in area were quite nice however, once I got to the room, I don’t think I have ever been more disappointed in a hotel room than I was then. The smell hit me like a ton of bricks. It could only be described as a mixture of urine, chlorine, and mildew. The room literally made me sick unfortunately I had nowhere else to stay for the two nights I was in Rockingham for a family gathering. The hotel owners need to invest the money and making this hotel better for travelers and locals alike. There is no excuse for the rooms being in such a shabby and disgusting state. What really made me angry was having to pay over 200 a night for a room that was four below the standard it should’ve been for that price point. The people who stay at this hotel deserve better. The staff was friendly and nice. The lobby and first floor area was nice, but it ended there. Once you left the first floor, it went way downhill from there. Even the elevator was shabby. I will never stay at this hotel ever again and I encourage people to read this review and help them make the decision to move past this place.

Clean rooms, nice folks, breakfast late and not great

The cinnamon rolls are to die for. Pancake machine was da bomb. Rooms felt damp for some reason, and had an odor.

This was a great stop! The hotel smelled AMAZING when we first arrived. The woman at the desk (friendly, pretty blond, wavy hair - sorry, didn't get her name) was very friendly, efficient, and professional. The room was exactly what my family needed. There are signs of wear throughout the hotel, but nothing that really mattered. Overall, I'm very glad we chose this hotel. Nice place.

It seemed overpriced. But it was a good stay for the weekend.

We were in the area for the Tar Heel All-Stars States tournament. So needed somewhere to stay for 3 nights. The staff members were wonderful: very polite, nice and helpful. The facility was clean, but, I, myself killed many insects. Now for the breakfast, it was gross!! Zero flavor!!! (Potatoes and eggs) And the “hot” breakfast (turkey sausage, eggs and potatoes) was cold!! I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express Hotels and they have been wonderful, which is why we chose to stay here. But would chose elsewhere if we’re in the area again.

The conditions in that room was a breeding ground for bacteria and the sheets felt like we were sleeping in slime. The smell from the wet carpet was disgusting. I even had to blow dry my husband’s shirt that he hung up. We carried our clothes out to the car during the 2nd day to avoid them getting wet. I came home sick and now paying for medication to relieve my congestion and cough. I have no doubt it came from that hotel! Had we not gone through a 3rd party and getting a refund being so difficult, to near impossible, we would have left. The stay averaged $200 per night which is beyond outrageous for the level of accommodation! We normally choose Holiday Inn Express because the chain usually has a consistent level of comfort, cleanliness, and good staff. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed we were with this stay! IHG should be ashamed!!! We will not continue our loyalty to this chain.

Hotel check in was good and the person (sorry I forgot to get her name) on duty was very helpful with our tv issues. The bed was wonderfully comfy and the room quiet. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, would have liked a waffle. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.

We love saying at HIE. The facility is always really clean, staff is always more than willing to help or get what you need and rooms are comfortable. We come to town at least 4 times a year because we have family that lives in the area. This time I was a little disappointed because there are a couple hotels in the area that compete and this one and one other are the only ones in Rockingham that have pools. I made sure before I made the reservation that the pool was operational, and when I called was told Yes! It is ready, only to realize and be told when we pulled up that it wasn’t even opened yet for the season. There is a certain reason that we enjoy the pool, and to know that someone went out of their way to lie about the pool being open was crappy. From now on, I’ll make sure my family goes by to make sure for us before booking. We do really enjoy this location and the staff though. They are wonderful, so friendly and helpful.

The room was large and clean to begin with. When we book several months in advance we pick hotels specifically with a pool and a hot breakfast. When we arrived we were not told any of the following information. One, the pool was closed for service. We found out, after going to the pool, that is was closed. We learning that this pool closure is scheduled annually around this time and we should have but were not notified that is amenity was not going to be included. Second, we found that the person who comes in a prepares the breakfast had a scheduling issue and could not open the breakfast area until a hour later than normal. This was 40 minutes after we needed to leave forcing us to get breakfast out every morning for another amenity that we paid for and were not notified we would not be getting during our stay. Then, they never once came in and cleaned the room. We got no clean towels or bedding even after requesting. They did come into the room and took the tip after the first night, but did not in any way clean or neaten the room. No discount for these issues was offered. Lastly I booked and paid for this room on a travel site. When checking in they required a credit card which I provided. After checking out I found that they again charged me for the room. It took me multiple calls between the hotel, the travel site, and my credit card to get the charge removed. I will be staying in this area again next year for this event, however, I will not be staying there.
