The Workspace Scavenger Hunt is Over: Why We Built Engine Spaces

Imagine this: You’re in another city for a client meeting and you need a conference room for a few hours. Simple, right?
Wrong.
You Google “meeting space near me.” Click through a range of hotel websites. None show pricing and half don’t even list their meeting rooms online. So, you start calling, leave a few voicemails and wait for callbacks that may never come. Meanwhile, a December 2025 Engine survey found that 82% of hotel meeting spaces sit empty most of the time. Hotels have exactly what business travelers need, but there’s currently no way to find them without a ton of manual work.
We call this the “workspace scavenger hunt,” and 74% of business travelers say they deal with it regularly. That’s because the way we work has changed, but the infrastructure hasn't.
Nearly one in three workers say their company has cut office space since 2020, with 43% reporting that no replacement workspace was provided. That’s according to a November 2025 study conducted by Engine.
Those workers still need to meet, collaborate, and get work done. That’s why the flexible workspace market is projected to hit $96.8 billion by 2030. The demand is there and the supply exists, but the connection is broken.

Enter Engine Spaces
Today we launched Engine Spaces, a free marketplace to help workers and business travelers discover professional meetings and workspaces – wherever their business takes them. Spaces will tap into Engine’s nation-wide hotel network, giving business travelers and remote workers access to more than 40,000 professional meeting and event spaces across the United States. Plus, it’s not just for professionals. Anyone can use Spaces to find a location for a social or personal event, too.
Users can now search for meeting and workspaces by city, date, and amenities. Once they’ve narrowed down their search, they can browse photos, review descriptions and see estimated pricing. From there, they can take action immediately by sending inquiries directly to hotels through a built-in form.
No phone tag. No mystery pricing. No wasted time.
For hotels, it’s just as seamless. They can upload images and key details; create dedicated listings for each space; and get detailed requests straight to their inbox instead of fielding scattered phone calls.
Book your flight, hotel, car rental, and meeting space all in one place with Spaces – it’s that easy.
Why now?
Distributed teams aren’t going away. But that doesn’t mean workers have to feel disconnected. Teams still want to gather, strategize and build relationships. They just need the infrastructure to make it happen without the headache or the extra work.
That's what we’ve built. Engine Spaces is live today at engine.com/spaces.
The scavenger hunt is over. Let's get back to work.
