The peak wedding month is the month with the most wedding-venue searches for weddings in that month. The cheaper month is the lowest-priced month within a couple of months of it that still clears the destination's weather bar. Rates are the average a hotel in each destination showed in Engine searches that month, so treat the totals as a citywide going rate, not a quote.

The average flattens the useful part. October is expensive because New York, Napa and Nashville are among the priciest destinations that month; it is one of the cheapest months in Hawaii, Miami and Temecula. Each destination's own curve is on its page, linked from the table above.

- Count the rooms. A common starting point is one room for every two out-of-town guests, then adjust for families and guests staying elsewhere.
- Count the nights. Most guests stay two, the night before and the night of. Destination weddings often run three.
- Multiply by the going rate for your city in your month. The destination pages linked above have all 12 months; the full study shows the peak, the cheaper month and the weather in both.
- Then ask for a block. A hotel block rate is normally below the going rate, so the figure you get from step 3 is the ceiling your guests would pay without one.
