Big Bear Lodge

The room was very clean and well maintained. Sure the fixtures were dated, but that is part of the charm of an older property. The owners were friendly and very happy to make sure our stay was a good one.

Nice mom and pop place with older rooms. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. Wasnt noisy and we were able to get a nights sleep. Close to places to eat and across from the beach.

Nice, air conditioned room that opened up directly outside for easy access to car.

The owners were awesome! Clean room, comfortable bed, excellent location. If in area again, will definitely book there.

My husband has family/friends in Alpena so we make trip up there from Allegan usually every year and its coming tradition to stay in the familt suite at the Lodge. I know its for families but its perfect for us. Plenty of space. Has the feeling of being in your little apartment since I cant stand hotels. The big bear lodge is affordable, clean, comfy and quiet. Never have any issues. Sleep perfectly. Its conveniently located near restaurants and shopping and the lake. Absolutely love it. Highly recommend

Cosey place with a homey old school feel. Place was clean and comfortable. Owners were very helpful.

The owners were so sweet and they had booklets on local goings on. The beds were comfy, showers were hot, and rooms had all the other amenities you could need. Highly recommend!

Nice and clean. Cute decor in the room we stayed in. Nice people that own it.

Although it was an older motel my room was clean and tidy. It's right on US23 but still very quiet which I appreciated. I could pull my car right up to my room so I didn't have to carry my suitcases far. This place reminded me of motels back in the 60's and 70's. The retro refrigerator was a nice touch.

Good location - walk to the farmers market, beach, splash pad, and food options. Not clean - Nail clipping and hair were abundant from previous renters. Calling the apartment a "two bedroom" is a stretch. There is a living room with a bed and another bedroom. "Lake view" is also a stretch, you can see a bit of the lake from the kitchen window.

What a fantastic find. This little gem was a really wonderful surprise. The couple that run the place were super friendly and the hotel was clean and comfortable. I love that the place has the feel of ‘my childhood’. I will definitely stay here on my next trip through

Clean, quaint, exactly what we needed the space for. Owners/staff were attentive, kind and just the sweetest!

Room was clean. Owners were super nice.

The location, value, and the staff were great. Bed could had been closer to wall, and thicker pillows.

Room too small. Floor was dirty. Kept awake most of the night by unruly neighbors. Don't understand why the customers were placed in adjacent rooms when the place was almost empty.

my stay was absolutely wonderful! the room was clean and cute, the bathroom, while cozy, was more spacious than i anticipated, and the owners were incredibly nice when i came in. i only stayed for one night as i was traveling for work, however if i were to be in the alpena area again i absolutely would plan another stay here. this place has so much personality, it really is such a refreshing visit. my only complaint is that there is no safety lock on the door, only the knob lock. not to say i felt incredibly unsafe, however it would have eased my mind.

Room was cozy and very clean. The couple who owns the property is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Will absolutely stay here again
