Motel 6 Altoona, IA - Des Moines East

I have to tell you, I am not one to complain BUT I will not stay at a Motel 6 again. The entrance/check in area of the hotel was filthy, the gentleman behind the counter was LESS THAN polite & helpful, The pool was NOT open, I was directed to the laundry room to get an extra pillow myself. My room was not cleaned while I was out, for my 2nd night stay. My toilet seat was not secure on the stool and flopped off the bowl when sat on. The one GOOD thing was that my air conditioning worked well during my stay.

The room was clean. But the rest of the property was questionable. The price of the room was over priced.

We were supposed to stay on 103. The parking lot had people possibly living in it. The hotel smelled terrible. The walls were gross ,ceiling tiles were missing. Our room smelled like someone smoked 3 packs of Marlboro reds right before we walked into our non smoking room. The bedding was dirty and had burn holes in it. We left our key and walked out. Horrible do not stay here.

After arriving to the room I did have an already over flowed toilet. It was neither clean nor flushed. Front desk did give me a plunger and asked I try that first before moving rooms. Moved to different room…room smelled of urine. Floors were sticky. Bed sheets were stained with I’m not sure what. At this point I was too exhausted to deal with the hand written note on the front desk regarding refunds. Other than the staff being willing to move me to another room, my overall comment is that I would not stay at this motel 6 again.

It did have a clean room, but as you walked in to the motel, there was dog crap right outside the entrance, trash all around, with what looked like a few abandoned vehicles, staff was nice, but lots of things not working or closed, like the pool, and the ice machine, but the room was nice and clean.

I traveled with a small clean pet and she got fleas because the room was filthy. I ask for new bed linens due to dog hair inside and outside of bedding. Dry dog poop on their remodeled floors. It was too late when I arrived to make any changes. As long as they allow dirt and uncleanliness with the room and pets it will be a breeding ground for fleas. They let pets stay for free but that’s what you get with free.

It was close to the interstate. Parking was just ok.

Disappointing

They do not have a pool and have not for a long time yet they still advertise it. The television gets like 6 channels. Was inexpensive.

They didn’t have one. The room only had one working light in the main room and the walls was not in good shape and there was no shower curtain.

Good

The location There was blood in my sheets, the toilet didn’t flush and the staff handed me a plunger to fix it myself

Bad

Light above sink didn’t work. Tub faucet was very hard to use. Needed more bed pillows or some that weren’t so flat. No ice

Exceptional

The man who supervised the place he couldn't understand or hear him half of the time also we checked out the room before we stayed because the place looked shabby on the outside and inside. Went into the room peeled back the sheets and there was dirt and dead bugs in the bed there were footprints on the floor like someone had been in the pool. We asked about the pool he said well you can go there if you want but there's no pool so we didn't understand that the place smelled and everything just seems so dirty. I demanded my money back and we did not stay there.
