The Lodge at Cloudcroft

Such a neat piece of history! Incredibly charming and beautiful, highly recommend.

After a long day and tense drive up the mountain in the dark and rain, the woman who greeted us at the front desk couldn’t have been more welcoming and kind. It’s an old lodge that has been honored and well cared for. There were actual metal room keys with an old key tag, antique furniture, low warm lights and a fire in the big stone fireplace in the sitting room, it honestly couldn’t have been a better experience on arrival. The room was cozy and comfortable, we cracked the window and could hear the rain and fountain in the front of the lodge. We loved it so much we stayed a second night and explored the area the next day. The town of Cloudcroft is small and charming, we hiked to the train trestle near by and the drive through the Mescalero reservation to visit Ruidoso was beautiful. We can’t recommend this magical place enough.

By no means what I say the interior and exterior is dilapidated, but it is definitely in need of a bit of sprucing. But relating to the experience: The staff was hands-down one of the most helpful group I have ever encountered in the hotel setting. Matthew in particular deserves a huge call out for opening up the hot tub after hours to help with my wife’s knee from a unfortunate spill that evening while watching the sunset. So overall, could use a little bit of upkeep and upgrade, but was Clean and provided good passage on our recent West Texas in New Mexico road trip.

This property is so beautiful. It was a wonderful stay because the rooms were clean, the staff went above and beyond to make this stay enjoyable and the amenities were wonderful as well.

Images online are deceptive, I almost didn’t stay here because I felt like it might run down due to the images. The stay definitely was unique and the rooms were updated. The price was great for the quality!

Very nice for such an old establishment 1899, very maintained but still keeping the old rustic area

It is a really lovely Victorian style hotel up in the mountains. Good food, nice bar, lovely grounds, close proximetry to shopping and other amenities. The floors are wooden and creaky, so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a second floor hotel room.

For an old hotel this was very well maintained. Had coffee and water out all the time and a fire burning. No elevators. Older people should be aware they must haul luggage up stairs.

No elevators. If you have a room on the 3rd floor you have to haul your luggage up by yourself. Pretty tiring by the time you get to the top.

Very nice property. We did not use the restaurant so no opinions there. The hotel is old, fairly well maintained. No elevator, so if you're on the 3rd floor, be ready to climb some stairs.

Beware of mountain sickness at the 9000 foot elevation.

The dining options are limited, in our opinion. There are complimentary muffins and pastries in the lobby each morning, but no full breakfast is available unless you go to a restaurant in town. Lunch and dinner are available, but the menu is limited. We did not eat any meals at the Lodge. The room air conditioner was a puzzler. The remote control has no instructions and is complex. I did an internet search and found how to work it. But it did not control the room temperature to the settings, no matter what I tried. We were there in September, when the highs were around 70 and the lows around 55, so that helped keep us comfortable. I feel this needs some attention from the management. That said, we had a fabulous time and will definitely stay here whenever we are in Cloudcroft. It's a lovely place and the ambience is wonderful!

Lovely location. Beautiful lodge

The Hotel is very nice and it is very close to everything in the town. With that said, everything in town closes at 5pm. Also, at the hotel they had a very late check in Time (3:00 O'Clock) and they were very much waiting until 3 to let you check in...So be mindful of checking in after three and still being able to visit the shops and such which closed very quickly after check in. For the most part the restaurants were open till 8 or 9, but still closed early compared to what us city slickers are used to.

We enjoyed our visit and will return again.

The Lodge is always a great place to visit or stay.

The bed in room 242 needs to be replaced. My friends had stayed there the night before & hated it & as luck is we got that room the next day. You both roll to the middle and when sit on side of bed it acts like it has been mashed down. No leeway in changing rooms when we got that room. Also no sign in the gift shops to tell you that you are on your own & to pay for your items at desk. I was shopping and an old man came to me to check out.? The building does needs some cosmetic repairs but maybe in their off season that can be done
