Royal oaks was a great little town and this motel was a new experience for me. The lounges and outdoor areas we wonderful and the staff was helpful. It was hard for me to get the old motel feel out of it but they really did a good job. I wish they would put a table and lamp on both sides of the bed and have more choices at breakfast.

The parking filled up on the side are room was on. There was mold in the shower. There was a strong unpleasant smell in the drawers. The toilet was loose and sounded as if it came off from the wall when you started to get up from it. The walls didn’t insulate the outside noise. However the room temp was comfortable and so was the bed. The bedroom was very clean and the staff we interacted with were nice and helpful.

I was annoyed. Then there is a sliding door for the bathroom, odd. With a Crack. Not privacy. The smell in the room is what did it 4 me, cigarettes. I told the lady were checking out tomorrow Nice bed though

The room was good and what we expected overall. The decor was very unique and fun. The staff was fantastic. Everyone was nice, helpful and seemed happy to be there. The extras, such as the pool room and bar were fun. The location was also great; we were within walking distance of everything on main street. We hardly needed to use our car unless we were going into Detroit. The AC was loud and the cool air was forced across the head of the bed. I had to keep adjusting the volume of the television every time the AC cycled.

Quiet, comfortable room, but no chair or desk or table. No place to get some work done or to have a bite to eat. First hotel I've been in that didn't have a table and chair, even though there was enough room for both. The other thing is, there were two pubic hairs on the edge of the bath tub. Overall, the tub looked clean, but those two hairs missed by the cleaning staff left a bad impression.

It was a good location, easy to get to Royal Oak or Ferndale The entire property smelled like cigarette smoke, the bathroom was dirty and didn’t even have hand soap, the property overall felt dirty and run down

It was convenient for what we needed to do. It’s fine and fairly clean. The air conditioning was very loud.

This is a super cool hotel located just outside of the main downtown royal oak area. The decor is a cool retro vibe. The lobby was basically a hip cocktail bar with the checkin "desk" located at one end.othe price was a third of anything in downtown Detroit. This was our 2nd time there.and we will be back.

The Royal Oak Motel is a remodeled roadside motel with a retro vibe. Our signature standard room had a king-sized bed, microwave, refrigerator and a kitchen sink and counter with two barstools: there were two patios with fire pits and games. Also a pool table room and entertainment room. Room service. Staff at desk and small bar were great. Within walking distance to downtown area with much to do. One of my favorite places I have stayed.

I really liked overall vibe, I’ve never been to a hotel like this. Staff was absolutely great.

The design of the place was quirky and fun. Their entire lobby is a bar, so it's confusing when you're trying to check in because the bar tender is also the manager on duty or representative of the hotel. You have to walk up to the bar to get your room keys, etc. The price, the name "hotel," and the slightly misleading photography on booking.com made me think that we were getting something of higher quality. I would have had proper expectations if it were listed as a motel or a hostel. There was a TV provided, but you had to bring your own subscriptions to use streaming services. The "blazing fast" internet was down the first night we were there, but we never found the wifi password anyway. It has that distinct "motel smell." Doesn't come with basic necessities like a coffee pot, hot plate, or microwave. The pillows were thin and cheap, and there were an odd number (3) for two people. They charge another $5 for their breakfast. We aren't sure what was served, because we skipped it. They additionally charge a refundable $100 up front as some sort of deposit against damages when you're checking in. The barn style bathroom door offered no privacy, and when you slide it open, it covers the light switch for the bathroom. So you have to close the door, turn the light on, open the door, go in, and close the door again, at which point there is still a 1/2" gap surrounding the door where you can easily see in and out of the bathroom. The pedestal style basin-only sink took up a lot of room and offered no counter space at all. There was an exposed fuse panel that was labeled to run the room next door and the room upstairs, and was completely unrelated to our room.

Super cute and charming place to stay! Wasn’t able to the amenities but would stay again.
