Route 66 Hotel, Springfield, Illinois

This is a very basic motel-style place which is just a step above creepy, just a step above dingey. For one night, it was fine, but I wouldn't want to stay there longer.

So much cool stuff to look at. Make sure to check out the mural on the back of the building. Front desk staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was clean & comfortable. We would stay here again if in the area.

Not clean! Rooms had mismatched lights which needed new light bulbs. it was super run down. AC didn't work well. It was gross we didn’t want to take a ahower.

We chose this hotel based on reviews and the whole route 66 experience. Although the decor thruout the lobby and interior was route 66, the room was not route 66 themed. The room we received was very basic. The ceilings in the main room and bathroom were dirty, there were a couple of broken items, holes in the wall. However, the bed was clean and comfortable so if you are just looking for a place to lay your head then may be ok. As indicated by others the pool was not open. We did book thru Expedia and it seems the room pictures, description and amenities may be misleading because we definitely did not get the room we selected and the staff indicated there were no rooms that matched the description, even though we paid for an upgrade, but we will address this with Expedia. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this place as there are nicer hotels for the same money. We did not eat at the restaurant so cannot comment on that, but were informed they no longer serve breakfast.

While it is technically a converted old Holiday Inn filled with some Route 66-themed décor, the nostalgia factor amounts to little more than some old signs, 50's-era toys, and vintage soda and cigarette machines lining the lobby and hallways. The iconic Holiday Inn sign is gone, and the outdoor pool featured prominently in photos, complete with Route 66 artwork, has been permanently closed. It now sits covered by a tarp, surrounded by maintenance equipment. Overall, the property appears to be in significant decline. The only truly memorable exterior feature is a large Route 66-style mural on the back of the building, which isn't even visible from the roadway. Inside, only a handful of rooms reflect the nostalgic theme as advertised. Most are outdated and extremely basic, with plain concrete walls that felt more institutional than inviting. There is also no real "arcade", just a '21-and-Over' slots area in the lobby and a few electronic dart boards hidden away in a banquet room; presuming they must host a dart league. To the hotel's credit, it was quiet. However, within minutes of checking in, we were ready to write off the cost of our stay and look elsewhere. If you're traveling with children, I strongly recommend booking somewhere (ANYWHERE) else.

Our bathroom didn’t have an outdoor knob, the showerheads were made for somebody that stood about 3 foot tall. It just smelled like smoke and pot. If they would’ve kept this hotel up, I think it really would’ve been something that people would’ve enjoyed to come to

Rooms were clean hot tub was good Building was rather old tho !! And hallways smelled like a old Swimming pool Staff was great tho !!!

The bed linen was clean, the towels were few, the bed had a huge dip in the middle, it could certainly use a new mattress. The air conditioning was excellent. The photos on this site were taken many years ago. Room 116 was dark and shabby, the tiles on the wall not very clean. The fridge was clean and in good working order. It must be noted that this room, and perhaps all rooms in this hotel have windows that look out on a corridor that people are walking up and down all the time, so there’s no natural light and no privacy unless you pull the curtains, in which case it’s very dark. More motel than hotel. The attached diner has great burgers and nice staff.

This is an old hotel with lots of character. While it’s fun looking and has a diner on site, it’s old school. The rooms are semi remodeled but bulbs are out and pipes are exposed. The chain on my door was broken. The curtain that faced the hallway had the first two hooks broken. People woke up starting at 4:30 and you could hear every single thing so I didn’t get back to sleep. It wasn’t terrible, but I don’t know that I’d recommend it.

The pool is out of commission and the towels in the room were dirty

Was a great stay. Staff was nicer, people was nice only negative is the pool was closed. which is a risk take at any hotel though.

Restaurant onsite was good, and not badly priced. Hallways between rooms and conference space full of old artifacts and Route 66 items. Some old cars outside as well. Just a few blocks south of the famous Cozy Dog Drive In as well. Was a bit noisy earlier in evening as there was an event at conference center.

Room was clean but its an older hotel so some things were wore down, and the bed was xtra firm but overall for the price it was a good place to stay a night.

Memorabilia in common space Room was filthy. Slept and left as quickly as possible.
