Quality Inn West Des Moines - Clive

The hotel is very run down from the exterior to the interior. There were bugs and random empty boxes in the hallway. I tried to check our bed for bed bugs because you could see a blood stain under the mattress cover, but the entire mattress was encased. Maybe a bed bug mattress cover? Sheets smelled like harsh cleaner and were scratchy. We were woken up in the morning by a man screaming in the hallway. This pattern continued all morning. I didn’t want to shower, the bathroom felt gross. The tub was very old and stained. There were drywall screws exposed in the bathroom. Only positive was the man who checked us in was nice and helpful. Would not recommend nor would I stay here again.

Upon arrival there was quite a bit of trash in the main parking lot and lots of cigarette buds all around the main entrance door, even though there is a sign right there that says No Smoking within 20 feet of doors. Check in went super smooth since I used Hotels.com to book the room a few days beforehand and they just needed my ID to confirm who I was, Bill was super great and friendly. I noticed he was able to help the people before me that were having issues with their reservation and got them handled like a pro. After check in and going to my room I had already read other reviews so decided to take a look around. After looking around the room I found a few things. The room reeked of mildew and just humidity. The sheets and mattress cover were clean but the mattress itself has some black spots all around it, almost like mold that was never cleaned properly, but no signs of bedbugs like other reviews had. The air conditioner/heater to the room wasn't working properly and when I looked in the vents there were clear signs of mold and mildew growing inside it. Most likely where the smell was coming from. Above the air conditioner was the window where the screen was torn on it, not really a big deal or anything but worth noting. the bathroom tub/shower had a continuous drip from it. The toilet isn't bolted down properly and wobbles back and forth really bad. The fan worked for all of about 2 minutes before it stopped then didn't work again. 1 Star

Clean room and very nice restaurant next door

The coffee pot was missing parts, the hair dryer did not work. We told the front desk and nothing was done about it. We went to the front desk and asked for more towels. This was a 2 bed and 3 night stay. She gave us 2 towels. No wash cloths. No conditioner in the bottle they have in the shower.

The place was moderately clean, but the advertised breakfast was very poor. What looked like apple juice smelled like it had fermented or something, and that was the only other drink option aside from coffee. Not even any water! There was just enough milk (after the guy refilled the gallon jug part way) for my husband & the other guest to make a bowl of cold cereal. It was rather unprofessional in presentation and quite lacking in options. It was also unkempt outside. The lawn hadn't been mowed in a long time.

Good location First room smelled like mold and urine so bad the worker almost puked when she went in there!! The second room they gave us smelled like mold and chemicals. It was so strong it made my tongue n nose burn n tingle!! Then they could only give me a portion of my money back. They also charged me multiple deposits of different amounts. I was told it would all be refunded but I'm still waiting for my money.

Police RAID the hotel because of someone using drugs, brought K-9 dogs around the hotel NEVER recommend anyone to go there again EVER!

Nothing Room

We came here in December and it was great. We decided to rebook because the pool is very cool even though the property needs some maintenance done. We got here last night to realize that the pool was not operable, and it still was not today by checkout time. Nothing was stated on their websites the pool was down. If I would’ve known the pool was down, we would not have booked at this hotel.

They had mold in the bathroom

Apparently there was an OWI class being held during the same time as our stay. When we arrived to check in the front desk staff was sitting on the couch watching a movie with a group of people, and didn't seem super excited to have to get up and do her job. The room seemed fairly clean, but the bathroom is in serious need of repair.

It was perfectly cozy and everyone there was friendly. It was a little outdated but still a very nice facility for its age.

Musty smelling room. Pool under maintenance. Limited breakfast items. Very loud a/c. Lights flickered. Wifi was intermittent.
