Shell Island Resort - All Oceanfront Suites

Good: quiet safe neighborhood near a ton of restaurants shops bars etc. Good: ocean front unobstructed view and spacious rooms, with ac that kept it cool in spite of 110 temperature and glass front to suite Bad: bad tasting bad smelling sulfur rotten egg smell water in shower sink and kitchen (entire island according to management in other words, apparently any hotel has this same issue) Bad: concave worn out uncomfortable ancient lumpy mattress - literally the worst I've ever had in any hotel and that's over 300 in my lifetime in six different countries, three continents Bad: grout in bathroom filthy floor noticeably dirty immediately upon arrival took off my shoes and regretted it - separating area between bathroom and bedroom absolutely filthy. No bed bugs and passibly clean otherwise. Solutions- wore socks, put a towel by my bed to clean feet before getting into bed, problem solved. Bad: frightening elevator experience with being trapped and it shaking and rumbling when we were on 9th floor which caused my husband a panic attack and heart palpitations- when discussing with management it was clear this isn't first issue as he said (and I quote) I'll make sure to bring this up again with our hotel maintenance (again).... who knows when or if it might truly break? This was a three night stay which included myself, husband, our 12 and 20 year old children. The morning views were absolutely stunning! You will need a car to get to major places, but the beach is right there! The only complaint I had was concerning the bathroom. It was not clean and the toilet seat was worn out and needed to be replaced. The towels were also dingy but we always bring or buy our own so this wasn’t a problem for us. Overall it was nice and for the most part quiet(until breakfast time😂).

Guest next to our room in and out slamming doors during the night and early morning. We didn’t realize how thin the walls were. Couldn’t sleep. Limited amount of towels left in the room. The menu at the restaurant wasn’t very appealing. We didn’t order so not sure of the experience. The employees at the desk seemed distanced and uncaring. Not very welcoming.

None of the furniture matched in any way And none of it was in any way comfortable to sit in No matter what temperature you set the refrigerator to it froze everything The thermostat kept resetting itself to 65 no matter how many times it was adjusted There was no silverware that was worth using That about sums it up!

It was great they were very helpful….we got towels whenever we needed them….

The view is great. When you walk in the room it appears clean but after looking closely there was mold in the toilets. The linens were very worn. Under the couch and living room areas not well swept. The staff at the front desk were nice. The location and property is also good.

The people upabove us were tap dancing on tourceilings and we could hear them. Need better acoustics. Otherwise great love the balcony

Great location and staff as well as other vacationer super friendly! We had a most enjoyable weekend and wished it could have been longer!

Beautiful beaches and nice, friendly staff Had some issues with the bathroom drains and getting the TV’s to work

All rooms are oceanfront and the beach easily accessible. Small outside parking lot for trucks that can't fit in the garage. Normal size cars also parked in these spaces. Had to get staff to make some people move their cars, serious inconvenience. Hot Tub looked like maybe 4 adults would be a tight fit and no circulation for some time said one guest. Went to our room the first night and had to kill cockroach's before opening the door. Bathroom for a resort would think to have shampoo/soap that didn't look like would be in a Motel6. Kitchen towel was torn and grungy looking, could almost shake debris from it

My first and last time at Shell Island Resort. Property needs serious updating. Plumbing fixtures ruined from salt air, baseboards in bath looked as though a kid was left in charge of caulking and painting. The restaurant felt more like a Lunch Room and definitely not a place to enjoy a nice dinner. When I think of a “resort” this is definitely not what I envision.

Very quiet, clean the room are perfect for a date or family my wife loved the place the access to the beach are 24/7 very peaceful I recommend it!

Beautiful location. Great suite

Staff was friendly and helpful. The outside pool was very nice but observed the hot tub wasn’t working. The hotel is very dated. Still using drip coffee pots with filters. Small things could be done to make up for age and condition of the hotel. For example, New pillows for sofa are stained which goes to the lack of cleanliness, inexpensive toilet paper…as I said some minor touches could help.

Restaurant is only complaint with resort. Several things ordered they did not have. The condo itself is falling apart. Absolutely filthy. Dishes,floors, furniture. Warped pans. Nothing to scrub dishes with. Drawer in bedroom falls out fell on foot. Kitchen faucet falling off. No linens or blanket for couch. Had to ask. Received a couple of sheets. No blanket. Dead spiders smooshed all over floors. So gross. Hard to relax.

Rooms were clean and adequate in size for 2. Rooms were dated and needed upgrading. Plumbing and shower facilities needed attention. Outside hot tub did not work at all and the front desk told us they hadnt worked for over 2 years but it is still advertised on the website. Kitchen cleaning facilities were very poor. No dish washer, no scrubbies to clean pots. Told to use paper towels to clean pots. No departing instructions about what to do when leaving. Nice pool - limited shade. Easy access to beach. Tiki bar closed. Limited hours on restaurant - no breakfast. Good location for town restaurants. Gorgeous views. A bit pricey for what we got.

The room was dirty like it was never cleaned, had blood on the sheets, it was horrible never will go back again

The room was clean but couch had a wire exposed on the bottom edge - but other wise we were pleased.

I don't wanna be the person to go on and on about the horrible details, but I couldn't wait to leave Sunday morning; we left at 7 am. WE WILL NOT BE BACK.
