Mission First: Maintaining Focus at Engine

At Engine, we are on a relentless pursuit to redefine the modern operating system for business travel.
Our mission is simple: to power connection through simplified travel, and the opportunity is massive. The global business travel market is forecasted to reach $1.62 trillion in 2026 — and more than 50% of that spend for small and medium-sized businesses remains unmanaged. This is who Engine was built to serve.
We are an ambitious company poised for industry-defining impact. To succeed in an industry ripe for disruption, we have to move faster and work more cohesively than anyone else. To do that, we rely on a core operating principle: Mission First.
What Mission First Means at Engine
The "Mission First" philosophy is built on the belief that for an organization to achieve its maximum potential, the collective goal must override individual preference, convenience, ego, and secondary agendas.
This also means Engine does not take corporate positions on social, religious or political matters that are unrelated to our core work.
We believe a unified team is a competitive advantage. Bringing corporate positions on social or political issues into the workplace, however well-intentioned, creates division, and division costs us. We'd rather be a place where people of every background and belief can focus on the same goal.
Focus is a Choice
Choosing a Mission First stance is not a judgment on the importance of any social or political cause. Many of our team members are passionate activists and community leaders outside of their work, and we fully support that.
However, when we are at work our energy is a finite resource. We choose to focus that energy entirely on our customers, our product, and our mission. By maintaining a neutral corporate stance, we ensure that Engine remains a place where people of all backgrounds and beliefs can work together toward a shared objective without the friction of discourse.
Supporting Our People
While we maintain a focused work environment, we aren't robots. We recognize that external events have real-world impacts on our employees’ lives.
Whether it’s external events that cause personal distress or local social movements that create personal logistics challenges, we support our people through our existing people programs. We encourage our team to use our standard flexibility, designated volunteer hours and unlimited PTO policies to find the time and space they need to handle life’s challenges so they can return to work ready to perform at their best. We support the person, even while we remain neutral on the politics.
Transparency and Alignment
This approach is not unique, but it’s also not the norm at every company. We also recognize that this environment isn't for everyone.
We are being transparent about this because we want to attract people who are energized by this level of focus — and to be honest with those who aren't. If you want to spend your workday building the future of travel tech alongside a team that is unified by a singular purpose, then Engine is the place for you.
We are here to build. We are here to win. And we do that by putting the mission first, every single day.
