Nice hotel in downtown Berkeley
-
Room was clean…enough. Wallpaper was peeling in bathroom. Sort of if you look to hard you’ll find what’s wrong with the room. Random furniture thrown together in the room. Construction downstairs with no warning

Great hotel, good location.

Everyone went above and beyond to give us the best experience!! We have 7 people in our family and the suite was amazing!
-
Great place and great service. Very central to a lot of things to do.

The room was very clean, and well stocked. The refrigerator was noisy and kept cycling on and off all night. Bathroom was beautiful, clean, and had everything you could need when traveling. The valet service was very responsive and easy to utilize.

Thanks for the hospitality

Great hotel surrounded by some gritty street life. Lots of restaurants nearby. Neighborhood a mix of Berkeley students, hobos, and tourists.

Clean room, friendly staff

The Shattuck is perfectly located, and we loved the places nearby. Our dog stayed with us, so there was a pet fee, but it was very reasonable. Staff were great - especially the valet !!

Very unprofessional -resulting in a costly overcharge. There was an accidental double-booking of which I was made aware just prior to check in. I immediately cancelled this booking both with the hotel, who understood that the booking was in error and that these rooms would not be occupied, and with Expedia. Expedia assured me they would refund me once the hotel confirmed, I was then given the run-around (manager JUST not in right now, just stepped out, etc.,) and spent long stretches of my time trying to get answers from both entities. The message was conveyed to me that the hotel was on board and that it was Expedia's decision to refund or not. In reality, the manager denied the refund to Expedia, Expedia tells me that it is at the hotel's discretion and that there is no recourse.

Unfortunately, I was very dissatisfied with this hotel. Windows are poorly insulated; you can hear everything as the hotel is located on a very busy and loud intersection, and until 1-2 AM, we kept hearing what sounded like homeless people yelling, etc. The room itself is nice but was not well cleaned when we arrived, with tomato sauce stains on the desk. Also, we had to return a very large phone charger to the front desk that was left by the previous guest, which also indicated that cleaning was not done thoroughly in the room. On top of that, we ourselves left a brand-name jacket in the closet and were told it was not found when we contacted the hotel after checking out. This fact completely ruined our experience, as it was clearly stolen by, I assume, cleaning personnel.

The room was super spacious and comfy, the staff were very nice and helpful. Great location. Overall, an amazing stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Shattuck. The location was great with very quick access to the BART trains! It is a lovely, well maintained hotel. The only reason for 4 stars was because on our last evening work crews were replacing carpet in a room adjacent (or nearby our room,) so between 10 and 11pm we heard loud sawing and hammering that woke us up and kept us awake. My suggestion to the management would be to schedule this work during the day so as not to disturb the guests, if that is not possible then notify guests in advance or offer some perk for the inconvenience. Other than that, we would certainly stay here again. :-)

I arrived late (and tired!) and had many bags to get up to my room. Derek at the front desk was exceedingly helpful and made everything easy and calm. I enjoyed the room. Book for a higher floor in order to catch the views!

Nice room, helpful staff, walking distance to UC Berkeley and many restaurants. No on-site parking however there is a parking garage located just across the street for $35 a night. We had a great stay.

The hotel itself is great. Well taken care of and great location.
-
Beautiful hotel. Older structure. Needs updates. Otherwise, a pleasant and reliable stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed here because we were going to a show at Spats for my birthday. Neither of us have ever stayed in a Berkeley hotel and my GOODNESS are we so glad we stayed here!!! Considering how walking distance it is to a lot of great spots and how exceptional the staff and room is, the price is insanely reasonable. I was helped at the front desk by Quee (I think I spelled he name correctly, girl if you see this I miss you lol!!) and she was a DELIGHT. She helped me check in super easy and honestly I think its the most fun I've had just checking in haha. The room itself was very clean and very cozy, and the room service we ordered from the in-hotel restaurant was absolutely lovely. We ubered to Spats but ended up walking back around 1 AM and the area around the hotel seemed pretty safe to us. There was still plenty of night life happening and it felt very secure our whole walk back. The nighttime staff that was there when we came back was also very friendly and asked us about our night out which was nice! In the morning the front desk helped us out with getting checked out and our call pulled out of valet so when we left our room for the day it was just a straight walk to the car to load it and leave. I highly recommend this hotel of you're doing something in the area, you won't regret it!!
