Birch Hill Suites Columbia

The rooms looked fairly clean so when I did my walk through before check in I didn’t notice anything. But once we got into the room and opened several drawers and they were all full of roaches. We moved some sheets and saw some other bugs that I cannot confirm or deny that they were bed bugs but they sure looked like it. Andrea (lady at the front desk) was absolutely fantastic. Super nice at check in and then very helpful when we decided not to stay the night at the hotel. We decided to Leave because we did not want to take anything crawling home with us. Andrea was able to secure a refund for us even though the hotel doesn’t typically do that. Again; she was amazing. Our rooms were full of bugs and we decided to leave and not stay. I wish I could upload the video that I took of the roaches scattering out of the drawer.

DO NOT CONSIDER THIS PLACE! ITS REALLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY, especially if traveling with pets. The moment I pulled in to opening the front doors, it smelled like weed, cigarettes and body odor. The place gave crackhead house. The lady in the front was nice but when I booked on Expedia, it said $60 per pet, it didn't say per pet. I really didn't appreciate the misleading information. So the hotel rooms were each $78 but because of the pets, it came a whopping $550 dollars. She immediately was trying to talk me out of staying there and thought I was staying for 7 days. I even asked if there was somewhere else that accepts pets and it's like she just didn't want me to stay but I wasn't going to continue driving another 7 hours on top of an already 10.5 hour drive. The room was not what looked like the pictures and it smelled like someone used it as their personal smoke house. There was a connecting door and there was tape over the edges like it was going to prevent someone from coming in. Also, the second we got into the room, my husband needed to use the bathroom and the ceiling fell on him. The lady at front was more than willing to give us fresh towels but since it was the only available double room, we had no choice but to stay when they offered a new room. Also BUGS! There were baby roaches on the window sill and in the room and the bedding was dirty, for the first time I had sleep in my clothing because it was that gross. Throughout the night, yelling, slamming. Left early

To make matters worse, I witnessed individuals apparently using drugs outside the lobby entrance, which made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Another issue was the number of dogs being kept in guest rooms. While I understand that some hotels are pet-friendly, the situation seemed poorly managed and contributed to noise, odors, and an overall unpleasant environment. The combination of cleanliness issues, strong odors, questionable activity around the property, and lack of proper oversight made for a very negative experience. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel to other travelers.

The pictures here are either old or fake please find somewhere else to stay. I entered the building and immediately heard what was a lady of the night having loud back door explicit services . The building smelled like cigarettes then while walking to my room a cockroach crawled up to my shoe. The only good thing I had to say is that the woman working the front desk was very polite given the time of my check in. I ended up not sleeping at the property due to how filthy it was. To anyone reading this check the reviews first!!!

COCKROACHES!!! The hotel would NOT refund a penny. We did not stay there one night of our four night reservation.

The property is old, dated, not upgraded, dirty, bugs in my room, smelled like smoke, and residents were loud, noise all night. I needed the kitchenette, which is why I choose it. Full size refrigerator, microwave, small electric cooktop served my needs.

Nothing to like,, place was infested with cockroaches and long stay personnel lingering in main entrance. No tv remote. Won’t recommend to my worst enemy. All photos are lies and a fraud. Police were on premises investigating a crime. It was a slum.

I feel I must warn others. You get what you pay for and in this case, less. I don't need golden toilets or fancy amenities. But, this is more of a 'halfway house' than a hotel. VERY questionable characters hanging in the tiny lobby, smoking at the front entrance. The clerk (who was nice) said they are a no refund place, so they let you see the rooms first. Thank goodness because I was shocked. Broken drawer front replaced with crap wood, filthy floors, missing wood trim, stained tub and sink, missing caulking, dirty window, a disgusting, chipped, beat up fridge, two beds that were on these very cheap folding metal frames. I was afraid to even sit on one, no less sleep there. Truly, this is less than one star. I turned around, returned the key and left.

If I could give 0 stars I would! We didn’t end up staying here because the place was smelly, gross, and out right disgusting! Most notably, there were several questionable characters standing by the check in desk and the check in lady mentioned several times VERY loudly our rm number which is unsafe and very unprofessional. We mentioned this to the neighboring hotel that we ended up staying at and the check in man there said they were likely setting us up to be robbed! He also mentioned there are multiple over doses there a week and the cops are there ~15 times a week! DO NOT STAY HERE

This place ended up being more like a halfway house - several properties in Columbia were converted (from a source who is a longtime resident of Columbia). Reeked of cigarette smoke and was incredibly noisy. People screaming, children crying - it was bad. I am disabled and sound sensitive, and I immediately crashed when we went to check out the room. Thankfully, the woman at the front desk was awesome. She had us check the room first -before starting the check in process. They are a 100% no cancellation property once you are checked in. She had me call Expedia to get a refund, as we decided not to stay and we’re not checked in. There is an elevator and the room itself seemed clean enough, but you would not feel like you’re at a hotel or even motel. Everyone who works there was very nice. Several people were milling around the entrance, but they were pleasant enough. Also, check in time of 3:00 is very firm.

Hotel was badly in need of updating. Room was old and crumby looking. There was no ice machine and no coffee maker in the room. Beds were clean and comfortable but the rest was just nasty and killed a cockroach on the floor. Would never stay there again. Lots of loud noise and kids running up and down the hall. Smoking in the rooms was allowed.

There were kids barefoot running around the hotel. It appeared that majority of this hotel is not actually a hotel but an apartment complex where many people and staff live on the premises. AC did not work in one room. The other room with working AC appeared very dirty, after the first night a friend woke up very sick congested and sore throat after running the AC all night while asleep. Holes in the wall, paint missing, bed broke down. A total of 5 channels on the tv. One of the two rooms I booked had cockroaches in the bathroom. Upon arrival we were told there was no refunds but were given keys to check rooms before paying which didn’t make sense when we tried to change rooms because there was holes in the wall and the room was dirty they did not want to change rooms. They ended up giving a cleaner room (as clean as they could offer) if we could have received even a partial refund we would have defiantly went somewhere else. When asked for a later check out front desk approved and moments later housekeeping came up banging on doors telling us that there were 15 rooms to check out and we weren’t allowed to stay until noon. Very rude interaction. Floors were dirty, sinks were dirty. Dead bugs in the light fixtures

Didn’t even check in after looking at the room first. Didn’t feel safe at all due to people staying at hotel, people lingering outside of the hotel and the room was not ok at all

The staff was above and beyond my expectations. The atmosphere was a bit off. Nothing crazy

The location was fine, the beds were okay to sleep in, but we were exhausted so that might have been why. Cockroaches, smell of weed, the pictures were deceiving, it felt homey almost enough, but in the end I should have gone with my gut vs. Talking myself into just staying because it was only "one night" and we were really only there to sleep after an event in town. Wish I would have grabbed more pictures, but only took one of the cockroach that I saw at 6 a.m. in the bathroom. That wasn't fun. Shaved my legs on the edge of the tub, wasn't the cleanest and weird black gunk floated around after I started up the water.

Smelled of smoke and was an extended stay. It said non smoking on the booking!

They said they couldn’t accommodate me because they didn’t have any available rooms even though I booked weeks earlier smh

We were told when we showed up to checkin that they double booked and we had no where to stay. They also said they had no way of contacting us to let us know sooner.

Bugs everywhere. Dog pee all over lobby floor and elevator.
