Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel

Amazing staff, properties is clean and beautiful never everything right in town.

Beware of the front desk billing at this property if you book through a site like Expedia. They recently updated their booking system, which caused a glitch that incorrectly charged our card $1,800. It took them days to figure out what happened, and no one knew what to tell us. To make up for the massive headache, they offered us a $200 room credit. However, at check-out, the $1,800 error was still on our bill. When they tried to fix it, they accidentally added the $200 credit as an extra charge, doubling our bill. We finally got it resolved, but it required constant monitoring on our part. Check every single line item before you leave!

We checked in on a Tuesday with a car rental, and had difficulty entering and exiting the parking area because the front desk did not update our vehicle information until the end of the second day. We felt that because we were Expedia customers, we were ignored pretty much our whole stay. If you stay here through Expedia, you might receive same treatment or spend your vacation time trying to get service.

Exceptional

The bed mattress The front desk staff was collapsed by the cloud migration. There was always a huge line to be helped at front desk. They never had a friendly smile. It was our honeymoon and we didn’t get any special or complementary gift in fact we got a room with views to the parking lot on a second floor even if we paid an upgrade for a king bed in advance. We couldn’t sleep properly because of traffic noise and loud music of the restaurant in front. The shower was leaking. The AC went on and off. And housekeeping only comes every other day and we didn’t know about it.

The downsides- our oceanfront room was on floor 2 with a view of the roof. Higher up would have been nicer and the hotel was definitely not at capacity. Our shower was broken. No hot water. Maintenance was responsive. However after the next shower it leaked nonstop for 2 more days. There was a cockroach in the bathroom. Expected for a single level bungalow in Hawaii but not a multi level hotel. The hotel went through a technology change during our trip. So much confusion about charges. The pool bar said they couldn’t charge to the room after we had already signed the bill. We were sent 4 folio emails that said we owed almost $800 in room charges even paying through Hotels.com. Getting a call back was impossible so I spent vacation time on hold, with a runaround and no concrete answers. We’ll be watching our CC.

Busy location with shops and places to eat. Good on-site breakfast buffet with lots of choices. Asked for late checkout but didn't get it. Had to ask for temporary passes to use resort while waiting for evening flight and was given a wrist band for pool but not able to use a bathroom with it??? That was very inconvenient. Something about a system upgrade which was supposed to be seamless. Too bad it wasn't. Front desk staff just okay.

Everything about the hotel was awesome

Great location! Everything was very close by. The pool and the beach were excellent. Snorkeling at the beach was ok but it gets better if you go further out. Our room had an issue with ants during our trip. The hotel just sent housekeeping over but the ants kept coming. Also my beach front view was blocked by a big tree and it was also very noisy in some mornings with the gardeners. Despite all of this, I still had a great time in Kona! There are some great beach parks within a 10-15 mins drive too!
