India House Backpackers Hostel

Staff was very accomodating and the communal areas are great. My private room smelled like pets or that it needed to "breathe" for a few days. I bought a plug-in and some air freshener then it was fine.

Fun interesting people, walk able distance to things the including transporte.

Close to the streetcar and the vibes in the hostel were pleasant. The staff was really kind and the people staying there were open to chat. The private room was not at ALL worth the price and as a solo female traveler I did not feel safe. The door was just a piece of wood held together by hopes and dreams. I have to lean my suitcase against the door at night just to close the gap but there was still a huge gap on the side of the “door” facing my bed. The mosquitos were basically my roommate for the two nights I stayed. The padlock given to lock the door was slightly broken and I needed to use force to lock my room. I stayed in a private room without an en-suite bathroom, and you have to walk outside to use it. It rained the entire time I was there so it was not pleasant walking in the rain just to use the toilet. The bathroom was okay, I can tell it’s been cleaned in the mornings but at the same time it didn’t feel or looked clean.

Kitchen was nice enough, disorganized and no obvious communal leftover stuff like cooking oil, condiments, spices, the usual stuff. But roomy. Nice to be able to laundry on site. Really neat space and outdoor area in the back. Tons of potential. The space they have could become epic, just needs a lot of TLC. I could imagine a world in which India House is a backpacker institution. I feel like the space could be super cool, but the owners don't seem super interested in making it so. Lots of potential, somewhat unrealized, but overall pretty good. Hot water. Holy shit did it take a long time for the shower water to warm up. The shower spaces need some sort of place to hang clothes where they won't get wet without having to tramp around naked in the shared space. Apparently this is a party hostel? Or they want it to be? It's unclear from the online site and reviews. Maybe it used to be but less so now? Dunno. Why on earth would a place want to be a party hostel beats me, but it was super chill while I was there. Which was great

Exactly what you want in a hostel, with the added benefit of AMPLE outdoor community / shared space & a pool.

I didn't like the community refrigerator for all the guest to label their food and it was so unorganized it caused me to have to did everyone's food out until I found mine. I think maybe a 2nd freezer and more shelves would make it a little better.

Really vibey hostels. Hosts are super nice. There is cool pool and everything you need to chill at the premises. Facilities could be cleaner but it was perfect for a one night solo travel stop.

Convenient to the streetcars. Price. Check-in building was nice. Washrooms can be better. Needs vents remove the moisture and odor.

The environment, the staff, the location, and the accommodations far exceeded expectations! Having to go home! I didn't get to spend enough time there.

Everyone’s very welcoming, the staff are friendly and also knowledgeable of what to do and how to get around especially if you’re from out of town. I’m just in general. This was an amazing place to stay. Nothing
