Comfort Inn Ottawa Starved Rock Area

Eh.

A small part of the ceiling in our room was falling down. A spilled dessert in the stairwell was not cleaned up overnight. The breakfast was okay, but I used up the last of the waffle mix, and it wasn't close to closing time. Fire doors with signs stating that they must be closed at all times were stopped open. We didn't like the "bathroom" being split into one room containing the bathtub and toilet and the sink out in the room. But the mattress was firm and the room was clean.

The hotel is needing updated. Room I stayed in, their was a hole in the ceiling near the window. Looks like there was water damage in the middle of the ceiling.

Overall, nice stay at a good price. The pool hot tub was broken and no towels were stocked. We hadn’t brought down towels. The room was nice, except the bathroom door knob had cut a hole in the wall from opening the door so many times from many people. The room was quiet. I would have brought my own pillow as theirs were really small, square ones. The breakfast was ok, not enough fruit choices or healthy options. Being that the price was right and parking was convenient- I would recommend it despite the imperfections.

This was a good place to stop for the night. The bar across the street was good.

He began to throw items, grab multiple knives at once, and yell that “we were going to pay for talking about him” and then various other words thrown together that made no sense. He was pacing, and became angrier and angrier, as he threw items - we told the staff and the clerk said “yeah, we know about him, he’s been here for days”. I explained that I’m a nurse & that they are going to have a catastrophic event happen if they don’t get a hold of the situation. The clerk said “if anything happens, I’ll call the police.” I examined that the statement didn’t help me feel any safer or protected. The man was not only acting erratically, his anger was continuing to escalate, even as nobody interacted with him. I would never feel safe returning to a hotel that does not behave in a proactive way when it comes to keeping guests safe.

For me the biggest issue was the AC and the ceiling above it. It had indications of poor ventilation and moisture (blackness all over the ceiling).

Whoever rented the room before us were smokers. The room smelled terrible.

We like being close to the state park. Not only did the entire building have a stale/musty odor, but our room was dirty. The staff showed me two other rooms as well and I just decided to actually clean the one we ended up in. I own a cleaning company, so thankfully I had all of my cleaning supplies. I took many pictures, and asked to speak with a manager, and they didn’t seem to care at all. I have tons of photos.

Bed is clean, room is weird arrangement and need some work. Bedroom had questionable odor but staff was friendly! Location okay and gym is small but ok.
