The downfalls encountered that others should be aware of was the hotel had no automatic doors which made maneuvering the luggage cart with multiple bags very challenging. Then there was the need to take two elevators to reach our room, which was not ideal. Even from the 4th floor, I heard street noise at night as well as loud mechanical noises. I would recommend bringing earplugs and requesting a room away from the street, elevators, and restaurant.

Loved the old world charm and decor. Good location, right downtown. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was quite roomy.

I want to give a shout out to the man working the front desk after 11:00 PM on July 22. I was exhausted and didn’t catch his name. He was so kind and helpful. If you arrive late the doors to the lobby will be locked for guest safety. He let us in right away though. He explained the options for parking, which was not fully explained to us earlier in the day. There is a free lot across the street and a paid gated lot that costs $20. We opted for the free lot and our car was fine overnight. There is a nice restaurant upstairs that has a view of the downtown. It closes at 9:30 PM and opens around 7:00 AM. The room was comfortable and had amazing water pressure. This was great after walking around Sequoia National Park. I also loved the complementary water and snacks in the room. I would stay here again.

The Darling is a one-of-a-kind hotel retrofitted in a 1930's art deco former county courts building. The ceilings are very high and the bathrooms are very large. The beds were quite comfortable. The staff were courteous and friendly. The food at The Elderwood roof-top restaurant was excellent.

Would absolutely stay here again if in the area. The hotel is beautiful, staff were so friendly and the pool was great for a hot day! Loved the rooftop restaurant!

The room was so cute and the bathroom was large and had great water pressure. Make sure to hit up the restaurant/bar upstairs for a great cocktail and view.

The property and room were lovely and clean. The bed and linen were cozy. The pool was small but clean with lots of loungers and seating. My room was charming and the complimentary snacks and waters were nice, as was the fridge. Optional free street parking lot was close. The staff was not friendly or welcoming. They seemed troubled to explain where my room was located or when answering any questions. I was disappointed because the ambiance of everything feels upscale and nice but service felt very motel lobby. The lower level room I was in was very loud with street noise. I checked out by 11pm and nobody seemed to care.

Our stay was great! The one thing I would recommend is to ask if you can drive into their gated parking lot to unload your luggage. We carried our luggage from the street which required 2 flights of stairs. Not a big deal for us but it would be a nice offer at the front desk when you check in!
