Hampton Inn & Suites Chesapeake-Square Mall

The hotel is just starting a "refresh" which is badly needed. However, the hotel was clean and the staff was great and our stay was uneventful - what more can you ask.

Horribly run down, in the midst of a very sloppy renovation. No a/c in hallway, damp, dank carpet, stained and running paint on the room doors. And finally, when I turned the lights on to get a drink of water, there were huge cockroaches on the wall, vanity, and the bar counter. I checked out at 0600 the next morning...after 10 hours of a full week reservation.

Clean room and great staff

Only thing in the room that was clean was the bed.

When I arrived, the hotel on the outside was clearly under construction. While I was walking in, there was a gentleman off on the side of the parking lot who was clearly on something he was talking to himself in a very irate way when I entered the hotel room. It was freezing cold. The sheets on both beds felt damp to the touch. The locks on the doors did not function very well. The top lock was pulling out of the door. It was kind of an odd situation because I had stayed there many times before, but the hotel as a whole had clearly gone downhill. The parking lot was also full of equipment that I am guessing was being used for the construction side of things that was clearly in process. Also, I forgot to mention the beds felt like I was sleeping on the floor. The mattresses were very hard.

From the moment I walked in had a poor experience. Parking lot was under construction and were spots. Front desk guy was reluctant to provide alternative. First Room smelled terrible like mildew, had to switch again the front desk guy gave me attitude, breakfast was ok most equal level hotels have better food, property was run down, would not stay again.

Breakfast and staff

This hotel should have NEVER been put online as having rooms available for rent. This place is under construction, rooms are filled with mold, you can smell the mold and the moisture in the rooms. We stayed the night because there was nothing else available, so we checked out the following morning. Elevators sounds like its about to break. Parking lots are entirely unsafe, people sleeping in the parking lot, outside drinking and smoking, which I found totally unsafe for guest and families. I felt for the staff, I take my hat off to them because they are very professional, polite, I know they see the condition this place is in.

I’ve stayed at the Hampton Inn on several occasions. This one was clean. The room was stocked with personal essentials and breakfast was good. The staff was real helpful and the air conditioning kept me nice and cool. No complaints. They do have renovations going on outside the building right at 0800. That’s the only downside.
