The building is a museum so do take that into consideration.

It’s really a period-piece hotel and that’s the big part of its charm. But with this charm comes limitations. The rooms are tiny, and the bathrooms are problematic. But it is clean, the restaurant is nice, the decor is authentic, and the location is perfect for the downtown area. I’ll probably check elsewhere if I visit again, but I’m glad I did it once.

One the most wonderful place we have ever stayed, a must !

Parking was an issue. Had to park several blocks away

We were in town visiting our son for the 4th of July. The staff was very friendly. The beds were comfortable and the shower was great. The restaurant and bar with live music is always a great treat. We enjoyed the parade, shops, and restaurants close by. Parking was a plus.

Hotel is right at the center of the city. Rooms are clean.

No refrigerator and extra charges added that weren't warned about ahead of time

This is an elegant hotel in the period style with all the amenities that you would want for a couple's weekend or stay in Durango. It is good for families, but the majority of guests appeared to be couples and took advantage of the 3 restaurants/bars in the building, as well as easy walking distance to all places downtown. Very comfortable rooms, a beautifully decorated hotel, amazing staff, and well-maintained. Reserved parking next to the hotel for easy access and traveling.

Lovely old historic hotel

Beautiful historic hotel central to downtown Durango. Easy walking to all the shops and restaurants in the area, as well as the Durango Train. You’ll feel like you stepped back into the 19th century. Definitely worth the visit if you are looking for an authentic old west experience. The bathroom could stand an update, but it was kept very clean and met our expectations for an older historic hotel.

This hotel was great! My wife and I stayed for two nights while we were explored Durango and took the train to Silverton and back. The wood work and furniture in the room were beautiful along with the hand painted wall paper. The whole hotel really set you back and time. The restaurant the Mahogany Grille was fabulous!!

We had a great weekend in Durango, and staying at the Strater was big part of that. Front desk were all super friendly and let us check in early, enabling us to change before kayak trip. The room was perfect and room service much appreciated. Both the Office and Daimond Belle are great to stop in for a cocktail, depending on the vibe you are looking for. Being on main street with reserved parking was also great!

A must stay.. if in town on vacation. We just love history and this didn’t disappoint us. Everyone was kind and ready to share a story. A real gem! Won’t every penny.

I thoroughly enjoyed the QR guided tour of some of the more important artifacts in the hotel public areas.

Had a wonderful stay! Staff was all excellent. We are always greeted with a kind and friendly demeanor and a can-do attitude. Room was perfectly appointed, well maintained, and clean. Never had to ask for anything! We will be returning as you cannot experience Durango fully in 3 days and the Strater is our hotel of preference!

Beautiful historic hotel with amazing staff! Shoutout to Jericho and Kelly for being so helpful.

Check-in went well with friendly front-desk clerk. Lively, clean rooms. Lots of dining and drink choices on site, which is a great location right downtown.
