The furnishings are nicely period appropriate to the 19th century hotel that it is, but the hotel has all the modern amenities which are well maintained. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, even at my early morning 1;00AM check-in. The buffet style breakfast was great. Far better than you get at the chain hotels. I recommend the General Palmer Hotel to anyone visiting Durango.

It was a beautiful, old hotel full of history. Our room was very large, with a comfy bed and nicely decorated with an outside the bathroom vanity which is essential when husband and wife are trying to get dressed and out the door to go explore the cute town of Durango. The balcony with chairs outside the second story was a nice place to drink coffee or bring togo dinner and watch the sunset or the railroad train come by. Loved the afternoon warm cookies and the coffee and tea table available all day. I will defiantly be staying here again. It did include a nice hotel style breakfast which was a nice touch

Very nice hotel. I would recommend it for your stay in Durango. Two things that come to mind that were a concern were that the internet was sporadic at best. Also you have to be ready for the train whistles all morning. If you like to sleep in it may not be the hotel for you.

The hotel is very clean and well maintained. Great location for watching the trains and walking around downtown. If having a room with no windows will bother you be careful which room you book. The breakfast buffet is good but gets busy with train riders and may not be restocked if you go down later. Overall a good stay!

The staff was efficient and friendly (thanks for all your great advice, Caleb!). The hotel is beautifully maintained, clean, lots of amenities, close to shops and good restaurants (one block to yummy Perbacca).

There were a couple of issues during this stay. I was in one of the deluxe room on the third floor. The room was a bit dark as the walls are painted dark brown where the TV is and the two chairs against the wall were also dark brown and the carpet on the floor is pretty dark as well. My lamp did not work very efficiently seem like it had a bit of a short, my toilet seat was a skew and every time I sat on it it moved to the side, the air conditioning unit was not the easiest to operate you had to go right in front of it to get it to work properly, the windows were hard to open due to the humidity and rain and there was no bottled water. Otherwise the stuff was pleasant enough, but could have been more welcoming. The location is absolutely incredible, the rooms are very quiet, the bed is comfortable but the sheet over the down comforter I had to remove because it was very rough and scratchy not soft at all. The location is exceptional and I would stay there again due to the location and the breakfast was delicious.

I did not expect the modern level of comfort provided at the General Palmer from a historic hotel. The historic decor was beautiful. The rooms, bathrooms, and amenities were modern and comfortable. Perfect location for the railway. Quaint walkable location. Balconies and lounges were nice. Breakfast was also tasty and a good variety.

Very nice breakfast and spacious rooms. An old elevator so be prepared for the stairs! No handicap ramp or ability for those with wheelchairs.

The history of the hotel, the beautiful antiques, the clean, cozy room, the view; EXCELLENT!

Room was very nice. The location is EXCELLENT. Breakfast was standard hotel fair, but the foot was good. My wife and I were very satisfied with the service, the room, the location, and the historical context.

Being in the heart of downtown. Once parked did not have to leave until we checked out as everything was walkable. Only negative would be the stairs in the building we stayed in. Was a little tough with luggage.
