It was ok except the pool. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Emporia, VA from 7/31–8/3/2026. Overall, the hotel itself was nice; however, the swimming pool was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. The pool was in deplorable condition. It was visibly dirty, the water was brown, and it had a strong unpleasant odor. My five grandchildren, ranging in age from 7 to 14, were unable to swim and were very upset. It was especially disappointing given that this is an indoor pool and we expected it to be clean and properly maintained. I am shocked that the pool was allowed to be in such poor condition. This experience significantly impacted our stay, and I feel it does not reflect the standards that should be associated with your brand. At minimum, the pool should have been closed until properly cleaned and treated, as this situation feels misleading and unacceptable. We were very disappointed with this aspect of our visit, and I believe management should address this issue seriously to ensure it does not happen again. I will be contacting corporate to report our experience.

The hotel and rooms appear clean and comfortable. There was a long dark hair on our bed, but these things can happen. The breakfast buffet was convenient in the AM. Main negatives would be: we asked for linen and a pillow for our daughter using the sleeper sofa, there were no pillows. Thought that was strange to not have any extras, and they weren’t very busy so. Had a hard time working the treadmill in the fitness center, my husband and sons also had difficulties with it. Was not typical or easy, and doesn’t have good guidance. The card scanner to allow you back into the pool room from their connected outdoor patio did not work, had to have another guest let us in, told front desk and he said he’s been telling them to fix that for months… the phone in our room was not only listed as another room #’s phone but it did not work at all, walked down to lobby to notify front desk and he didn’t really respond about that, just got the linens I had also asked for… was a little unusual. But, I mean, the place was nicer and more updated looking than some hotels. Just a few things that were, like, not great. Staff was friendly though.

Great location, right off highway and tucked away in a quiet location. The front desk is really lovely and friendly. We have been coming here for years and it has been very reliable. The place was clean but the floors were filthy (except bathrooms). We had just gotten to the room, took off our shoes and stepped on the carpet with clean socks and the soles of our feet were black. The carpet and walkway near the kitchen/bathroom was really dirty. It was as if it not only had never been vacuumed but also washed.

For the most part, we enjoyed our two-night stay. We were in town for a family gathering, so we spent very little time at the hotel. Two suggestions: please expand parking! On Friday night, we literally parked on the pedestrian pavement at the front entrance. Also, we requested an extended check-out time and were only given until noon on Sunday. Most hotels will entertain a 1pm check-out. We were a little disappointed. Another suggestion: please clean or replace carpet where needed.
