Banana Bungalow Hollywood Hotel & Hostel

There was no place to charge my cell phone on the upper bed. I have to get out of the room and go down to the first floor and find a place to charge.

OMG!!!! Had the BEST time ever at this hostel!!! Free burgers, drinks and karaoke followed by a night out with new friends made here!!! Can’t beat the location being a good hike to Griffith Observatory and on metro/bus lines!

I have been to lots of hostels in the LA area and by far the best and only one I return to is the Banana Bungalow. You can’t beat having your breakfast in the Tiki Lounge which is like an oasis in this city and there’s something fun to do at the Banana Tues-Sat

By far the best place to stay in Los Angeles!! The staff go out of their way to ensure you are well cared for and have a good time! The Tiki Lounge is the perfect place where you’ll make friends with fellow travelers, while you all explore the city. You won’t be disappointed!

Great location for our scheduled activities in the Hollywood area. The private bathroom was not in our room. It was outside and around the corner.

Loved the room, very clean and spacious. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Hostel is in a great location. Would definitely recommend to people looking for a great spot in Hollywood.

There were no charging spots or read lamps for individual beds

Location to main Hollywood attractions were super close! High marks on that. It’s literally right off the 101 and on Hollywood Blvd, not far from major attractions and the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The evening I arrived, they had dinner and activities which is great especially for people traveling from further away, it felt like a kind community and I like the vivid colors of the building with the lights. Parking was available inside which is nice (for an additional cost). Upon arrival, during check-in I was notified parking was at an additional cost, I think that could have been disclosed up-front or on the app. Also during check-in, personnel could have been a littler friendlier, I was notified I needed evidence that I would be moving on and NOT extending my stay. I’ve never encountered that before so I was unsure what type of evidence to provide besides that I live away and just wanted to enjoy a weekend in SoCal. This could be specific to this location or LA due to the large unhoused community nearby, disclosure upfront would be ideal. I stayed in a 6-bed room with its own kitchenette and bathroom which was nice, recommend removing any stained sheets or bedcovers. The metal bunk beds were gnarly but I managed just an FYI because you can slip going up or down. Use caution. Otherwise, good stay for solo and/or economical travelers. Probably wouldn’t recommend if you want a quiet place since they do have karaoke and play music at night.

The place is a lot of fun if you are young and traveling. If you’re looking for an easy place to stay and meet cool people from all over the world this is the place to be. Everyone we met was really nice. Our room was clean and the bed was fine. Just remember this is not a regular hotel you need to bring the necessities. (Hair dryer) The extra parties are fun too. You can store your luggage until your room is ready. Also it’s Hollywood. Yes there are homeless people but it was never an issue for us. We walked a lot, took the Metro, and took an Uber at night. We never felt unsafe. I wouldn’t want back at night from the Metro if you’re not in a bigger group. It’s really easy to get an Uber. We didn’t get the room we rented and didn’t get any of our money back. The pictures and description did not match the room. We were just told well there is a lot on the website that is wrong. I don’t think that is right. I think we should have received some sort of refund for our room because the room we stayed in was not the room I paid for. There was a funky smell in the carpet it didn’t seem really dirty just a weird smell. Not terrible just needs a good cleaning. The walls are very thin.
