The lady at the counter the night I arrived wasn’t very welcoming. The women at the desk when I left was very welcoming. The room I stayed in needs to be renovated, the shower leaked all night & before I got there. I got an extended king with the whirlpool that was molded. The jets were black, not because of cleaning but because it’s probably old. Couldn’t get in it at all because of it. Didn’t have a nice & wouldn’t stay there again. It also smelled like cigarettes on the floor I was located on, which is odd because it was supposed to be non smoking.

We got the room with bunk beds. Great big room with a lot of space. Huge beds. Beds are 6/10-ish cofort wise but property is unique and room was very good for our single night.

Lovely and cozy place to stay

The decor is fun and the rooms were nice The pool was disgusting. Bugs, hair, mucus blobs, no towels. TV wasn’t fantastic.

Breakfast was great selection of food, good coffee.

Place was great. Staff was great. Got me a spoon when I needed it. Very clean. Probably check prices there first when I come back to town again

The front desk staff was incredibly pleasant and enjoyable!

Cleaner rooms, TV channels didnt work very well

The room was affordable, clean, spacious, and charming. The staff were eager to be helpful. The fiberglass moose out front was “unique,” and the log cabin aesthetic was simple and charming, even if it was a bit “kitschy.” Loved it. Would stay here again.
-
Convenient location for our needs Outdoor pool was closed for remodeling unknown until check-in. Would have thought better to do after Labor Day. Not a deal-breaker, just a disappointment. TV had limited movie options — no premium channels.

Great stay! Clean room, good breakfast, nice staff.

Good place for a night or two

They are still going thru renovations. The carpets are now done and they have started on the outside. The pool was closed one of the days we were there, so I would check when you book if the pool will be open if you plan to use it.

Nothing Terribly disappointed in the conditions of the room an swimming pool was dirty no hot tub ants etc

My room was very musty. Bed felt damp. People before me put a car freshener on av unit. Sticky candy on floor, hair in bathtub. Told staff about it. Said they didn't have a room like mine available. I won't stay there again.

This is a special, cozy hotel with loads of log cabin decor. It was clean and nice with great water pressure and a great bed. The hotel has a small snack store and bar as well as an indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub that were open late. We only stayed one night but it was very nice and close to great restaurants. I'll stay there again for sure next time we are in Des Moines, Iowa.

We have stayed there for more than 10 years on every vacation but time is taking a toll on the property. A lot of signs of wear. The staff is still great.

Our stay was.. not the greatest. I can usually excuse a couple stray hairs in a hotel room (can’t catch them all), but it seemed like I was finding hair everywhere, and pubic hairs on the towels. However, the most annoying (and embarrassing) part of the stay was an issue with plumbing. The night of the stay, we needed a plunger, and I would think any hotel would be able to supply that. However, I called the front desk who said they only had one plunger (for the entire building) and that it was missing. I was told I would have to wait until the morning when maintenance could come, but “luckily” (her words) my room was near an elevator that I could take to use the restroom. This was frustrating; who wants to use a main bathroom in the early hours of the morning? I’ve worked in a hotel before, and there was always an emergency maintenance member, just in case. When we checked out, I mentioned the plumbing again, and I was curious about why they had one plunger for the entirety of the building. She said that they “had thirty, but people steal them so it’s easier to just have maintenance come.” I am curious how the nightly deposit on a room doesn’t cover plungers when they go “missing,” and I am also concerned their bookkeeping is subpar; there’s no reason that they couldn’t check these out to people and threaten a charge if unreturned. I felt as if I inconvenienced them by needing this, even though we couldn’t use a basic amenity during our stay. Won’t be returning.

There were two insects in my room, a silver fish and small moth, might help to spray occasionally Breakfast was good Room was comfortable Glad there was a freezer in frig as I had ice packs I wanted to keep frozen

Theming and decor was great, but even better was the cleanliness. While some areas were under construction/repair, it was evident that repairs were being taken care of.
