14 West Hotel

Very convenient location to the beach. Rooms were clean and comfortable . Grocery store across the street was great. Beach chairs, umbrellas and towels were available to borrow. Pool was great.

First time at this hotel, staff friendly and made it easy to walk to the beach parking was very convenient

When we addressed the lack of service, the staff unhelpfully instructed us to display the door hanger with the 'Please Clean My Room' side visibly facing out. However, we discovered that the sign actually said 'Do Not Disturb' on both sides, highlighting a significant oversight in the hotel's amenities. Additionally, the room fell short in comfort due to significant design flaws. The ceiling and clear doors allowed light to enter, causing us to wake up early, and the loud noise from the air conditioning unit severely disrupted our sleep.

The hotel was quaint, and the location was perfect.

It’s a converted motel with some limitations on what they can do with the existing structures. There are some odd choices they needed to make, including the fact that all windows in the North building face inward, meaning you can’t have the blinds open and have any privacy. They also use physical keys instead of key cards, so if the previous guest takes off with one of the keys, they have to re-key the door. It’s comfortable for what it is, but it does have some unusual quirks that even most cheaper hotels have figured out.

Unfortunately we stayed in the South Building, which was formerly the Holiday Inn. It was a bit chaotic and rundown. Weather was warm during our stay from 8/7-8/10. We had two rooms, AC did not work in one and the fridge did not work in the other. I was thinking they may have been going through a transition phase as they were taking over the property next door but the staff was not friendly at the front desk we walked in and out and not a word. No coffee in the morning when I checked and it was 7 am on a Saturday morning? Next day there was coffee but it was clear, no flavor. We asked for towels Saturday evening and they were behind on laundry and didn’t have any to give us. We were asked to check back. The only thing that saves them is LOCATION they are across the street from the best tacos “ The Taco Stand” which is the happening spot from open to close and they are only one block from the beach. The Orange Inn is a great breakfast spot also at the same intersection along with Ralph’s Grocery store being across the street. There was parking available for $40 a night, not bad and the beds were comfortable. You only get 1 key per room. Hopefully they eventually upgrade to make it comparable to the North building. They are two separate properties, one has nothing to do with the other..

Gates were rusted and falling apart, no elevator to get downstairs and we were traveling with a toddler and my pregnant wife, no accommodations to fix the issue like placing us on a surface floor so we didn't have to go down stairs, no assistance from the front desk helping carry our bags. The amenities and the staff were disappointing, but the price was fair and the room itself was clean and nice.

Great place! Did a solo trip and everything was clean and tidy! The taco stand is right in front and the ocean is right there! Would go again easily

We went out for breakfast we didn’t eat there Room wasn’t what I expected bedding was dirty floor had sand inside the room toilet paper want full almost gone in the restroom had a bad smell

Those who are calling this the catfish hotel are spot on. The pictures make it seem this place is luxurious but it’s not. Our room was gross. There was a faint smell of urine in the carpets. I felt disgusting when staying in our room. Wallpaper peeling, random electrical work cuts, barely any outlets, plumbing issues. The hand soap was a cheap bottle filled with soap like you would use by your kitchen sink. Tissue box just sitting empty. Door won’t close all the way and there were bugs flying around and was bit multiple times by mosquitoes. The rooms are tiny barely allowing walking space. The coffee was rarely ready, out of basic supplies. Staff was rarely at front desk. While some of these things seem like a low concern with complaints shallow, the amount of money we paid (a lot) we would like service, rooms, supplies provided. On our road trip home we stayed at a Comfort Inn for are quarter of the price with beyond much better accommodations. The hotel we paid a lot of money for was way worse than a highway located chain hotel. Disappointed is an understatement. Save your money and go next door to the Holiday Inn.

Loved the area.

Location is great but that's about it. Everything else was like a run down old motel in the middle of nowhere. Staff was friendly but messed up our reservation and wound up walking into the room, thinking no one was staying there, when we were dressing.

There swimming pool is really heated not like hotels that tell you its heated and its not. Loved walking right in pool and it felt wonderful. Management was overly helpful. Beach is about a block away nice place across the street with pasteries , sandwiches ,,great breakfast menu. Only about a 1/2 a mile to the Pagent of the Masters and Forest Ave.we didn't have to use a car we didnt even need to ride the trolly. They do need some repairs to the building so I hope they can countinue makinging the outside better, but it did'nt hurt our stay at all if you want perfect yor're going to pay higher for it. Wish the parking fee was less than $39 a nt

I like the location and price

The room itself was chic and modern, nice shower and kitchen area and couch in the living room section The bed was horrible I was going to call Caltrans to ask them to fill in the potholes we had horrible sleeps
