The hotel and Staff are Great , Great location BUT THE VALET PARKING IS HORRIBLE,,, they’re us not much option for parking except the valet it takes over a hour to get your car about of people where very unset Great place to stay but take a Uber

breakfast is good. Neigborhood dodgy. Kind of a wasteland vibe.

We stayed 5 nights 7/16-7/21 for Mosswood Meltdown and seeing friends in the Bay Area. Superb location for the shows. Had a terrace room where chair cushions were dirty and unappealing. That was disappointing. Grab and go snacks in the lobby were great for late nights. ALL the staff, meaning valet, front door, housekeeping, and front desk were friendly and kind. The housekeeper for 3rd floor was excellent, the best of the best. She was more than kind and accommodating when we asked for housekeeping late in the day on Sunday after the World Cup finals, which we watched comfortably in our room. Wish I’d gotten her name as she deserves the highest praise. Very grateful for her service and for Bethany at the front desk. She was also an excellent host. I loved the gritty/gentry neighborhood. Go to Sweetbar bakery and Drake’s Dealership near the hotel and Tallboy and Tacos Oscar in the Temescal neighborhood. Overall, a great stay and would come back here in a second. Thank you staff at the Kissel!!

This was outrageously priced to be honest be aware the extra fees they tack on are crazy. They tried charging me $96 for parking for ONE NIGHT. plus a 27 “resort fee” which is crazy since it’s not a resort it’s a small hotel in the not so nice part of Oakland. Staff was friendly that was really the only upside.

Wonderful service -all around.
-
Other than the fact that like all other nice and convenient hotels the price is always more than you want to pay, in Oakland, this is your pick. Avoid the house rental stuff that's killing neighborhoods and stay at the Kissel.

Clean, modern and comfortable!
-
Not so good: Long queue and wait for valet parking. Hair found on makeup face towels (gross), and room not very clean. Limited options for in room coffee (not enough for two people).
-
Staff was super friendly. The place was modern and really nice! Definitely would love to stay here again.
-
Nothing. It looked nice on line but not in person Room too small. Shower has no curtain or full door.

The common space at this hotel is lovely and the vibe is nice. The room was a fine size, but the bed was one of the least comfortable beds we've slept in at a hotel. For a hotel of this level, that was a big disappointment. We had an unfortunate incident at the restaurant where a dish that was marked gluten free actually contained gluten, which was a big problem for my husband, who has a gluten allergy. The hotel did a good job of trying to make it right once they realized the mistake, but you can't really take something like that back. I hope they learned from the incident, and travelers with food allergies should take extra care to avoid the situation we had. That said, the breakfasts we had there were otherwise very good and service was quick and friendly.

The only nice place in Downtown Oakland.

Thoroughly Enjoyed our stay over graduation/Memorial Day weekend. Convenient location, restaurant servers and doorman were very friendly and helpful. The gym had a good selection for a quick morning workout. I would stay again.
-
We paid extra for a larger room but didn’t get it. The hotel claimed it was a mistake. After reading other reviews, it’s clear this has happened before. Staff was not helpful when we raised the issue.
-
People were nice and lobby was okay and newish. Room was clean. Rooms were tiny, and bed was really uncomfortable. Just not the quality of room I’d expect for the money. Felt very institutional and furniture was incredibly cheap and flimsy. Like IKEA but not as nice or comfy.
-
Beautiful stay, the front desk staff was mostly rude other than a new hire who was training. Despite that, would stay again as the area felt safe and facility very well kept.

The staff was very helpful. The room was clean. The only think that i didn’t like was the flatbread at Otto’s. I offer half to my son I he didn’t like it either!

I really liked the room setup and terrace.
