Breakfast was limited continental vs other breakfast staples

A few things have changed since I last stayed at The Breakers. The Starbucks machine in the lobby is no more, and the breakfast was continental rather than the hot breakfast I have had in the past. It's possible that that difference was because this visit was in the off-season, but I was definitely disappointed about that. The staff were as friendly and accommodating as I remembered, though.

Unfortunately, I don't have more positive things to say. We asked for a late checkout upon arrival. We were directed to a sign at the front desk that read, "Due to high occupancy, we cannot offer late checkouts". If you don't offer late checkouts that's one thing but the hotel was very obviously empty. It cannot have been over 25% capactiy, so it felt like a lie instead of just being direct. I've stayed in my fair share of hotels over the years and this was the most uncomfortable hotel bed ever. I did not get a good nights' rest on either night of my 2-night stay. The bed was more boxspring than mattress. As someone with chronic pain, it took a toll on my body. Lastly, the continental breakfast was sad. Don't waste your time. There were bagels and pre-made packaged waffles. There was also some pre-packaged hard-boiled eggs, cheerios or cinnamon toast crunch, and yogurt. Everything looked questionable. The milk provided for the cereal (or just to drink if you're into that) was 4 days past its expiration date. The bagel is probably the most edible offering for they had. Unlikely to return.

Great location near stores, restaurants and only a few blocks to the boardwalk and beach. No issue with parking. The hotel could use an upgrade but was clean nonetheless. This was a repeat stay.

Only spent one night so couldn’t speak to longer stays. On the plus side this hotel is a short walk to Rehoboth Beach and our room overlooked the lake which was nice. Continental breakfast was decent and the breakfast room was clean, bright, and sunny. On the downside the room smelt musty and the bathroom was dated and crammed. Staff were not overly friendly either. I probably would not choose to stay here again.

It’s been about 10 years since we stayed at the Breakers Hotel. Since our last stay it’s been totally renovated and is visually more appealing. The lobby and outdoor seating area are attractive and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate to start the day off right. It’s a short walk to the beach and shopping.

Clean suites at a great location. I f you want your room clean you need to request it otherwise, house keeping will not come to your room before you leave. Great stay.
