Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Downtown/Bayside

Good location. Horrible check-in experience. Check-in time was 4 PM, we arrived at 4:30 PM and we were told that our rooms are not ready. I stay in hotels very often and it is the first time someone told me my room is not ready after checkin time. We asked to talk to a manager which never happened. They kindly ignored our compensation request and speaking with manager request. Finally, instead of charging my credit card for possible incidentals, they charged my card for the entire stay even though it was pre-paid already. They realized and said they will release the charge. I am following to make sure that they refund my money.

The staff and the property were great, close to everything. The CandyCane Lane restaurant was not a good choice to replace the previous bar. Not anywhere near as comfortable or inviting.

Exceptional

Room was modern and clean. View of the bay was beautiful. Every interaction with any staff member was plesant, including smiles and greetings in hallways passing staff. Attached resturant (Candy Cane Game themed) had great breakfast (our only meals there) and their staff was also very plesant. Great location and convenient to much.

It was generally very aesthetically pleasing and very central to downtown San Diego attractions. There were ants in the room upon arrival but we already payed for the room and no where else to stay

The manager was very helpful, as we discussed how incredibly rude one of the front desk employees acted. Convenient area for coffee and lunch.

Everything is excellent !

Nina and Diana were so helpful, friendly, and accommodating. We felt welcomed and taken care of upon arrival even Loren the bellman made us feel special and appreciated. Great Staff!

Candy Land themed dining was the only place to find coffee and dine. Not enjoyable for adults traveling without children, limited menu, pricey.

Walking distance to Little Italy which has a lot of restaurants We purchased breakfast , which wasn’t the best and finished at 9am on weekends. We were not advised on check in and for International travellers with jet lag we missed it. I paid for 2 people for 3 days and only used it once.

We checked in for an overnight stay and it was great! Staff was very helpful and our room and the property were very clean. We didn’t use any amenities because our stay was so short, but it’s definitely a place I would come back to! The location of the hotel was also in such a good spot and walking distance to lots of local restaurants!
