Holiday Inn Express & Suites Shawnee-Kansas City West by IHG

Do NOT stay here! No breakfast Saturday morning, so had to completely change our morning plans. Entire hotel needs updating and a deep clean. Hotel stays very humid. Everything feels wet, including the sheets and carpet.

Room was humid an smelled of mold

Breakfast was standard—a variety of hot and cold items. Location is good—near Shawnee, Lenexa, and stadium/speedway/Legends. Property is somewhat run-down and in need of upgrades and maintenance (our shower pan had a large crack, carpet was old and dirty, grout was dirty, room had a stale smoke smell, etc.) Though this wasn’t exactly cheap, next time we will spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

We also observed visible moisture on the ceiling near the front door of our room, which raised additional concerns about water damage or a possible moisture problem contributing to the moldy odor. The conditions in the room were unacceptable. A room with a persistent moldy smell, excessive humidity, and visible signs of moisture should not be rented to guests. We chose to stay at a Holiday Inn because we expected a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained room, but this experience fell far below those expectations. We hope the Holiday Inn staff will thoroughly investigate this issue, inspect the room for mold and moisture damage, and take the necessary corrective action so future guests do not have the same experience.

The tv remote is limited in its capacity to control tv. I had to run the hot water at the sink for one minute and 15 seconds before it starts to get warm. The breakfast food is not appealing at all. Elevators did not work and we were on top floor.

The sofa mattress was unusable, my kid had to sleep in the floor, which was more comfortable than the sofa.

Very Humid

Nice when it comes to breakfast and it's a lot to do within the hotel itself. The Wi-Fi signal and the Wi-Fi itself was terrible one of the worst had to deal with.

Beautiful property in a safe, quiet location. Check-in was efficient and the staff member friendly and inviting. The room was very clean. Bed was excellent! Location is set in an exquisitely kept community where miles of walking tracks exist if you want to get out and explore a bit.

The handicap rooms are on the top floor. This does not make sense. In case of a fire, use stairs? That does not work and is a safety issue.

Came in around 1:30a from the airport & the hotel was just as muggy as the outside. Clean room but sleeping in a muggy room was not my favorite

The shower floor was soft right where you had to stand and literally moved up and down atleast and inch the whole time, the water was luke warm at best. And the housekeeping were beating on the door at 8:15 am until we would answer and then just walked off.

Roof was good, staff nice, breakfast was good. Just fix the one elevator that has been down for several months now. It is a pain with just one elevator.

Breakfast was fine, but the hotel itself needs help.

There were no chairs in the breakfast area to sit.

Modern and clean. Free breakfast and nice small fitness room.

My son and I stayed here while he played basketball. We had a double queen suite. It was handicap accessible which we did not need, but was really well equipped for someone who did need it. The room is big with a really nice large bathroom. The fridge was nice and cold and the amount of seating was good. The a/c is amazing!!! It was really hot and muggy outside, but it was really cold in our room. I had it on 73 and finally just ended up turning it off for a couple of hours because it was so cool in our room. The area where the hotel is located is so quiet and secluded, but a quick drive to many good places to eat and shop. The seclusion and quiet is wonderful when you are sleeping. We slept all night with no loud traffic noises. The laundry room was pretty warm, but I find most of them are in hotels. Washer and dryer worked great and were not overly expensive. The holder for the handheld shower in our room needed replaced. They had it rigged to not flop around, but that only worked if you were short. If you moved the holder up because you are tall, the shower head rotated around like crazy and sprayed water everywhere. I wish the curtains/blinds were better at blocking out the light at night. They sit on the outside of the window instead of inside, and that allowed a lot of light around the outside and kept the room lit up quite a bit for sleeping. Overall a very good place to stay with great staff and great location.

Great place to stay during a quick trip

Could have been cleaned better and the party room was rented out which was loud music for over 4 hours. Called several times asking the front desk to please have them turn the music down, it went past 11pm.
