This is an older property. Everything looks tired and worn, although clean. Our room was fairly spacious with adequate furniture and a good bed. Unfortunately, the A/C had an odd odor and couldn't keep up with the Texas July heat. Maybe summer is not the best time to come here. Also, something to consider for light sleepers: the train tracks go literally right behind the property, with freight trains going through all night.

This place was easy in and out- safe and the staff was friendly. Dinner at El Capitan was delicious and it was a great stop on the trek to California!

Super old place needing a few updates. That said/ it was super clean and the owner was a nice guy. A little overpriced maybe for no coffee maker, breakfast, etc. if you can snag a room for $80-$100 probably a decent value.

Convenient location Suspicious idlers hanging around the property for hours at a time, super loud a/c on its last legs, no ice machine, no wi-fi

We love the restaurant in El Capitan Hotel but prefer to stay nearby.

Bring you own food, town has only one restaurant that I could find open.

The only downside was proximity to the train tracks. A couple of trains went through between 9pm and 6am.

The staff member on duty was especially helpful when we checked in. We always stay at Desert Inn when driving through Texas.

Air conditioning is too noisy. We can’t sleep.

An older budget hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Use the $ you save on the hotel to walk 2 blocks up the street to splurge on a nice dinner at El Captain Hotel. Although the AC was loud it blew cold air and kept our room very comfortable. I would suggest earplugs if you don't want to hear the AC. A nice stay for 1 night.
