The Charlie is an absolute gem of a boutique hotel. It is an older property, but it has been beautifully renovated to offer a peaceful, hidden sanctuary complete with beautiful garden, private patios in a quieter area of town. The room itself is beautiful, has an exceptionally comfortable bed and large pillows, spacious comfortable separate living room, a great TV setup with tons of channels, and the massive bonus of a full stainless steel kitchen. If you are looking for an incredibly cute, character-filled getaway with great amenities and tranquil outdoor spaces, this place is a perfect choice. I’ll definitely be going back.

I reserved the Steve studio for a two night stay, The Charlie is absolutely charming, I chose it for the wonderful Chaplin connection, it’s style, kitchen facilities and it’s proximity to my meetings. It had its own pretty flower filled garden. The bed was very comfortable, the decor lovely, the kitchen small, perfect with a great cooker and fridge and the bathroom was clean and bright. The desk in the room was perfect for my work. The second night it was difficult to sleep, because of the people socialising above me with their windows open and footsteps are loud, there was a slight smell of damp in the wardrobe cupboard, which may have been from the washing machine in there. The staff were kind and attentive, the gardens are peaceful and gorgeous, I enjoyed the large sunny communal deck and I was kindly given a late checkout, which I really appreciated. I would very happily stay there again.

The Charlie Hotel and our ‘Steve’ room in particular was a great place for us to base ourselves in West Hollywood. It had enough space and all the amenities that you would need. The bed was comfortable, and there was a full kitchen and washing machine and dryer. Staff that we encountered were very friendly and professional. The only negative was the frankly ridiculous rule that was stuck to the kitchen wall forbidding the cooking or microwaving of fish with the risk of a $250 fine from the hotel. As a couple who enjoys eating fish every day or two, this was very inconvenient. It seems, if odors are the issue, that spicy curries or food full of garlic would be more of a concern. I’m just glad we didn’t go to the supermarket before we checked into the room and saw the sign, otherwise we would’ve had a lot of fish going to waste! Never had this “fish policy” in any other place we’ve stayed in across the globe.

Excellent, hidden gem.

Charming and spacious bungalow to celebrate my husband's 50th. Close to West Hollywood. Found a fantastic vegan restaurant and checked out the Woods. Highly recommend if you're looking for something unique.

Attentive staff, calming environment, and overall excellent location! Its uniqueness is definitely a staple to my experiences, but the kindness of all staff made it truly welcoming!

This is an oasis in West Hollywood, it's a gem. The location allows walking or is an easy drive to the museums, and countless dining choices. Wonderful property to relax outside with a glass of wine and is extremely quiet

Such a unique hotel/bungalow experience in LA. Spacious, comfortable, clean, helpful staff, in a quiet section of West Hollywood. Loved everything.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Charlie. I slept better there than I have in any other location in Hollywood or Beverly Hills. We had sumptuous beds, thick towels and plenty of space! The atmosphere was peaceful and the detailing on the property was just exceptional. I felt like I was truly in Old Hollywood.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. I stay here all the time!

The cottages are adorable and well appointed. The staff is friendly and attentive, but note they front desk closes at 5pm, so arrangements need to be made if you arrive later (which they totally accommodate)! It’s like a Bed and Breakfast but without the breakfast. Would absolutely stay here again!

Amazing place. Will come back again.

The Charlie Hotel was a welcoming, well appointed and well run hotel in a great location to visit LA.
-
To be sure, the expertly provisioned attention to finer details like fresh roses and “hard to get” reservations, from proficient, and well connected hands.
-
Pros: Room was spotless and the grounds were beautiful. This place allows you to live like a local and not a tourist. With that, cons: The building was old and I could hear a lot of noise from the room below.

We loved being greeted (by name) by Douglas before we even entered the gate. His help in checking us in and orienting us at the property exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Marlene suite...amazing. Loved the decor- the furniture, the floors, the art, the stained glass bits in the old style windows, and especially the small black and white tiles in the 1 1/2 bathrooms. Douglas told us how to walk to the nearby grocery store where we stocked up on supplies for the next morning's breakfast that we made in the kitchen. We brought some flowers with us but guess what? There were some already in the room. We then Uber'd to a sushi place, then returned for a relaxing (very peaceful) evening back at the Charlie. Never heard a single peep from another "neighbor" at the Charlie or from the surrounding neighborhood, even though it was the last day of a festival. The room was gorgeous, like staying in a well-kept home from the twenties, which it is (if I have my Charlie history right)! Beautiful grounds, too. Green bushes, flowers, gravel, fountains making their tinkling sounds...Staying at the Charlie is a beautiful respite in a very large city. Just that the parking spots are small and it is a little hard to maneuver to turn around to drive out of their gated parking area. But a landscaper/maintenance man saw us leaving and came over to eyeball the situation and tell us "we had it".
