DoubleTree by Hilton Winston Salem - University

Housekeeping staff were polite and welcoming. The front desk staff never welcomed us and actually pointed to the credit card device vs speaking. We were handed our room key and they continued on with their cell phone. We have travelled to many Double Tree hotels and this one absolutely did not show the kindness and customer service we have always received. Extremely rude and disrespectful to guests.

Everything was good, comfy beds, convenient location to the highway. But there isn’t really a restaurant.

Breakfast was great

First of all the lady at the front desk with the long red hair was extremely rude and disinterested in her job. She visibly rolled her eyes at a customer at one point. I avoided asking the questions that I wanted to due to her sheer disinterest and she was distracted by her phone. Due to her customer service alone I would not return. Princess in the other hand who came to fix our tv was very helpful and friendly. Princess really should be at the front desk. Pool was closed. Room not clean. It was just highly disappointing overall.

When we arrived we were told there were no rooms but they had moved us next door to the Spark hotel. Why there were no rooms when we had a reservation from a month before escapes me. It is a lesser property with lesser amenities. The staff at the doubletree could not or would not help. There was no manager there and I was told to email the manager and they would call me. They never called, never offered the difference in rate as the spark is generally $50 less per night. Very very disappointing. Buyer beware on the Hilton Doubletree in this location. The spark was clean, budget oriented, fine for the night. Definitely not as nice as the Doubletree. I wonder how often they do this?

Staff was friendly, room was clean and spacious. We were only there for one night driving through but it was perfect for what we needed

The pool was out of service for repair. This would have been nice to know since it was the hottest 4th of July ever!

Overall a great stay. Dining area staff were a bit overbearing while supervising the breakfast list for guests

We only stayed 1 night. We did not have breakfast at the facility. Room was clean and the staff polite and courteous.

TV service was sketchy. The desk staff were wonderful. The dining staff for some ready were too intense concerning the legal right of our breakfast The elevator seems to need upgrading

The staff at the front desk were friendly and supportive. However, the place looks like it's been neglected and there was construction repair going on in the front of the hotel overhang. It looks like a truck or tractor trailer that was too high hit the bottom of the overhang in front of the hotel and it looks like it is collapsing. That's the first thing you see when driving onto the facility which is an eyesore. The hotel luggage carriers were filthy and looked like they were never cleaned. Checking in at the front desk took a long time as their computer system froze up during check in. The room itself looks like it needs some updating and a deep cleaning. The phone in the room did not work at all not even a dial tone. I complained to the front desk by calling them on my cell phone and they said engineering will come up to check it. They never came up so I unhooked the phone and brought it down to the front desk to show them. The phone finally started working but no engineer came to the room so it was probably a fix made at their communication panel. There were no hotel guests in the hotel swimming pool and it was a hot sunny day so I assume the pool is dirty as well. Hotel management needs to clean up this hotel.

All in all, the hotel was fine, but not up to what I expected from a Doubletree.

If I’m ever back in the area I will always choose this hotel. Everything was great. Big rooms, nice bathrooms, clean, quiet, friendly staff, nice bar, definitely impressed with the fitness area, and checking in and out was easy as can be.
