Large, clean rooms. Good value for the money (at least when we stayed). Convenient location if visiting Iowa State University. We have no complaints and would happily stay here again.

The restaurant was conveniently located and offered an à la carte option on weekdays. However, it’s best to come in a relaxed mood, as it can be a bit overwhelming. On weekends, they have a buffet available. We’ve stayed at four different hotels in Ames, and without a doubt, we’ll be returning to the Gateway Hotel in the future.

This hotel has nice grounds, free parking and quiet rooms. My biggest issue is the service at the restaurant. I have stayed at this property at least six times and the restaurant is constantly understaffed. At breakfast this morning there were at least 30 customers with one server and the manager running tables. Took forever to get the food. It makes me avoid the restaurant. However the front desk staff is nice and attentive.

The pool was one of the better hotel pools. The water was warm and it went to 6 feet deep! Rooms and hotel was clean. Would definitely stay here again!

Great hotel and the staff was helpful and friendly! Only complaint is that the shower floor was slippery, very unsafe. I didn’t fully slip, but I could easily see someone getting very hurt.

The restrurant had terrible service. Waited for 20 minutes to get waited on and once order was put in waited for over an hour and canceled our order. Will not eat at the Iowa Stater.
