Route 66 Motel

Staff very helpful. Amenities not so good a/c took forever to cool room down, fridge barely worked if at all. Towels, sheets, pillowcases were no longer white. Hate the fact that there was roaches, walls were disgusting dirty.

If you had no other choice and you just needed to sleep , this would do it.the TV remote didn't work , you had manually get up and operate the TV, so that was awful. I asked to pay cash and they charged my car without asking me though I had requested to pay in cash at property. The property itself has its own nostalgic look but it and the whole town of Barstow is just dumpy. No coffee maker, no ice , the water in the sink is Grey and cloudy but toilet water is clean. Walls are paper thin so you can hear people talking next door at normal tone. If we knew what we knew we would of stayed elsewhere

This motel was very well kept. Clean and cutely themed on the outside. GREat place to stay when passing through Barstow.

The room was clean but not high quality. Staff were present when needed. There was a small parking lot directly off Route 66, with a neat aesthetic. However, this strip of the route had constant police sirens or some form of emergency sirens going nearly every hour, which made sleeping very difficult. They are flexibly pet-friendly, which was a big plus for me.

1. No ice machine (small issue) and 2. In order to save money the AC was off. Now I don't expect to arrive in a freezing hotel room, energy is expensive, etc., I get it. But if a room is booked set the AC in the room to 80 degrees at least. When my wife and I arrived in the room, the room was 110 degrees, just like outside, and it took like 3-4 hours for the geriatric AC to cool the room down to where it was comfortable enough to sleep. We ended just staying and it did cool down eventually, but we lost half the night's sleep.

You get what you pay for is all I can say. I thought my kids would appreciate the old cars and things, but it wasn't anything special. The roach I found would apparently rather unalive itself than live there.

The motel was fine, Barstow was the problem.

I've stayed here at least six times through different seasons. It's a quirkily-decorated former main-drag Barstow hotel -one among quite a few. That said, I choose to stay here due to the numerous good experiences I and others I know have had. This is a very affordable budget hotel so my expectations are set accordingly. From my experience, this is NOT where "stuff goes down" in town -I have yet to see any sketchy behavior as sometimes is in evidence in low cost lodgings. The owners continue to maintain and improve the rooms from what I am finding over time, and by that I mean that the rooms are basic yet show the owner's thoughtfulness and care in making the place comfortable. From my experiences, this is always a reliable, well managed, safe, reasonably quiet place to stay in Barstow. The old Route 66 as kinda the main drag in town tends to be a bit noisy as loud local cars drive by, but the hotel is located well away from the rail yard and the freeway both, so the occasional loud car before midnight isn't a bother to me. I now travel with my pet and the additional pet charge of $15.00 is completely reasonable and consistent with other places I've traveled. The staff is typically patient and good natured. If you're looking for fancy or boutique amenities, go elsewhere. If you're looking for an affordable place to unwind from the road and get a decent night's sleep, I recommend the Route 66 Motel!

Stayed here because we did Route 66, and it was recommended. It’s old, but not in a good way, not maintained well. We got a “no smoking room” and our room smelled like smoke so bad, we stunk because we stayed there, there an area with a fridge and microwave, and nothing else, like a big empty space, no table and chairs, it’s like an incomplete room, no lamp or alarm on the table between the bed. It was weird. Like someone stole half the things from the room or something, and even when you leave the room, it smelled like pot, everytime, like bad. I know they can’t control that, just saying.

We stayed here as a one night stop on our way to California. We were pleasantly surprised (bc the outside of the buildings and sign didn’t seem too updated) to find the room seemed to have been renovated recently. The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. The only thing that was not clean was the coffee maker, but I don’t use those anyway at hotels/motels so it wasn’t a big deal for me. The person who checked us in was friendly and recommended a good burger place right down the street which we enjoyed. We were able to park directly in front of our room which was helpful. It was a fun “Route 66” stop and I would recommend it!

Was disappointed with the neon sign not lighting up at night. Even though this didn’t affect my stay, being it’s the Route 66 motel and it’s the 100th anniversary of the road, I thought it would be nice to have taken pictures of the neon sign.
