The room we were given had a very small bathroom, and I’ve never seen a waiting area with so many stains and so dirty. It was absolutely disgusting.

We stayed in 10 hotels during our trip. The Sonesta was vying for the top spot, only losing out due to the extremely poor service in the internal restaurant the Skull and Keel. I won't go into that now, but it did taint our overall experience. Although our room was small, it needs a special mention for the extremely comfortable bed. The best we had. The hotwl could benefit from an airport shuttle, but hotels do not offer that.

It’s really run down, wallpaper peeling, door handle falling off, bathroom door barely closing, one of our towels was not clean. We paid $700 for a weekend.. which is pricey especially for condition the hotel is in. We checked out a day early. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good.

I typically stay at Marriott properties but booked the Royal Sonesta through Expedia for $400. Apparently, Boston thinks it’s NYC when it comes to hotel prices! The positives: Breakfast was excellent! The blueberry pancakes and crab cakes with eggs were delicious, and Manuel provided wonderful service. The bed was extremely comfortable, with sheets that felt almost like silk. We enjoyed the Charles River view and the nearby restaurants. Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. At check-in, we were given the wrong room number and had to call downstairs after reaching our floor. We were also given incorrect WiFi instructions. The room was a decent size, but the bathroom was ridiculously tiny. It reminded me of a hotel in Tokyo where you could practically brush your teeth, use the toilet and shower simultaneously! To top it off, the shower handle fell off. The hotel opened in 1963 and was renovated in 2016, but it still feels dated. We had just arrived from Greece after a 10.5-hour flight, where we paid $300–$400 nightly for significantly better rooms and amenities. I remember staying at the Royal Sonesta in New Orleans in the 1990s, when the brand felt synonymous with luxury. This experience certainly didn’t measure up. The staff were pleasant, and the location was convenient, but this simply wasn’t a $400 experience.

The hotel is nice but I was taken back when I was greeted with a $255 “destination fee” on top of what I originally paid for. It was deceiving to say the least. The rep at the front desk mentioned it was noted once I paid for the hotel through expedía but no where does it say it before booking. If I would have known, I more than likely would have looked elsewhere. My room was also next to the elevator and as you can imagine, the noise was very noticeable. I wouldn’t stay here again if I were to visit Boston again.

Location I thought it had a good view to the river. The window is small and the view is obstructed.

The King room on the top floor with the panoramic view of the Charles River is my absolute favorite hotel room ever. SO beautiful, notably clean, comfortable and well cared for. Every staff member I interacted with was kind and helpful, from the front desk to the gentleman bringing in the rollaway bed for our kid. The salt water pool was large and lovely and clean and the perfect temperature, and in a nice bright atrium. Great location and a wonderful experience across the board.
