Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Historic District

My wife and I have stayed at this particular Embassy Suites many times because the location to so much of what people want to see in Charleston is within walking distance. This property use to be the Old CItadel of military fame now the Embassy. I don't think we will stay again. Why? The interior decor from color of walls is simply depressing. I would think pictures on the wall at least in some places would reflect the historical nature of this building but none to be found. So, what is the main reason I am not staying again? THE CARPET IN THE ROOMS, BATHROOM TILE, GENERAL CLEANLINESS of the entire place is GROSS! In fact, rip out the carpet and put down something along the line of engineered wood/laminate. As I said great location, they take dogs, staff is wonderful but truly whom ever owns this property does not spend anything on cleaning it up and maintaining it from what I can see and I stay in Embassy properties around the country at least 30 nights a year. It actually looks like a detention center or jail at times. Reasonable rates for a city that can be very expensive. Breakfast is very nice and included so the place is good value.

The first impression walking off the elevator was huge stains in the carpet. The bathroom was old and the sealant had black stains. I didn’t want to take my shoes off in the room or sit on the sofa. Grubby! Also I could hear almost every word of the conversation of the people in the room next to us. Breakfast was okay but the egg chefs were grumpy at best. They are renovating the property soon and it desperately needs it!

Ideal as a base - hotel is very centrally located with easy walking to all historical sites and very close to King Street for shopping and restaurants. Hotel decor is very dated but if you can see beyond that you will have a great stay. Complimentary daily happy hour between 5-7pm with two free alcoholic drinks per person and snacks was an unexpected bonus. Breakfast was ok with a variety of choice, just go with it for what it is and don’t expect a 5 star experience. Staff helpful and polite.

Hotel was great. Loved the breakfast in the mornings and complimentary drinks in the evenings. Hated that the parking (Valet) for the hotel was $50 a night on top of already paying to stay there. Hotel was fantastic other than that.

The location was convenient for my needs. The foam pillows were extremely uncomfortable.

The breakfast was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Updates such as carpets, furniture and bathtub need to be done however the room appeared to be clean.

We didn’t realize this was a historic building. We our stay. It can use a carpet upgrade.

Staff was beyond phenomenal!

Hospitality was really good! Staff was helpful. There were many OLD hotel components: worn carpet in the hallways, awful wallpaper that was peeling, dingy walls. Omelets were skimpy, needed larger portion sizes (cheese, mushrooms, etc). It would have been nice to have someone sweep the outside area near the entrance.

They do not serve lunch or dinner. I heard a leaf blower at 5 am this morning.

All aspects were amazing. The staff is spectacular, especially the breakfast staff!

The staff and location was great The furnishing looked like they hadn’t been updates since the 80’s. The carpet in the stairwells was filthy and worn out. The couch and chair in the room was something you would see on the side of the road. Well worn out. Bathroom plumbing barely worked. Water in shower was only one temp. Curtains in room were broken and were very hard to close.

Wow, what a cool building. Apparently it was an armory or something. Staff was excellent. Will stay here again next year!!! BONUS, COCKTAIL RECEPTION!!! Parking was excessively expensive.. 3 free drinks would be better than 2
