Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Historic District

Good

If this was my first embassy suites I would not book them again the hotel was in need of major repair that was done was shoddy,the beds were terrible and old the sofa beds we’re beyond unexceptable,we had to take the mattress of the second bed from are friends room so we could sleep.the reception in the evening only allowed 2 drinks and the bar was open at the 2 hour reception time,the snacks were poor ,staff seem to have given up ,the couches in the rooms were dirty and old ,,they gave us a room with only three sets of towel both rooms only had 2 glasses in a room for 4 no amenities, the sofa in lobby was held together by 2 x4 rs and dirty .hilton you can do better than this,my other experience was great you need to improve or lose customers

Lots of street noise in the middle night was a challenge: sounded like garbage trucks, big machinery running. Woke us up around 3:30 am first night. Car park fee very expensive. No place to self park.

Breakfast was amazing

Breakfast was excellent. Comp drinks and snacks were great everyone had a good time

Our room didn’t have any windows! That wasn’t stated on my reservation. There was a musty smell in the room. We had to call for a room freshener. Breakfast was excellent. Happy hour was good except for the mice in the courtyard. Location is excellent for sites. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Superb

The room and hotel was not like what was pictured. The rooms, and bathroom had very rusted fixtures and didn’t appear very clean. An employee named Ethan and Josh at the desk were very helpful “. One lady that was the manager I believe was not helpful and wasn’t friendly she had white hair I don’t remember her name that was at check in reception when we arrived. We asked her if there was a different room bc it wasn’t as appeared in photos and she said all the rooms w king size bed were only on the first floor. She did not offer us a different option. Just wished she was a little kinder and helpful. The hotel pictures did not show what the hotel really looked like inside. No greenery draping the railings, or tables around the atrium.Other staff members were very kind. We probably will not stay there again on a return trip.

Hotel could use updating. Great location . Cocktail hour isn’t what it used to be- food wise. Love the Breakfast

Now the bad. The place needs a serious make over. You can tell there has not been many updates over the years. The carpeting was very worn and had a musky smell to it. In several locations the carpeting was just completely worn out. The lighting in the main area felt dark almost dungeon like. Looking at the photos in the listing, makes it look way lighter than it really is. Our room (406) had no window. I really couldn't believe we didn't have a window, but it didn't. The furniture in the room was very old and pretty beat up. The couch was worn down as if there was very little support like you were sitting in a small hole. For outside access, I understand you have the side doors locked to prevent people from walking in, I can not understand you don't have a key fob to allow people to access. All the room doors have the key cards, why can't you add that on the side doors.

Understanding it is a historical site, you still need to do upkeep. Let me start by saying it was clean, however there are holes in the doors, they tried to caulk to cover up some bad areas in bathroom, did not work. It needs a huge renovation, but the staff was great! Very accommodating.

Had to change room 5x. Front desk was rude. One room had a water and mold. 2 were super loud ac unit running out side. 1 had cig smoke machine running when we arrived. When we checked out we were charged for valet after repeatedly telling them we self parked. Nightmare. And that’s just just the half of it.

Great location The room was freezing and hard to regulate thermostat , not enough bedside chargers for 2 people

The receptionist was very rude. I asked her to look up my Hilton Honors account when I arrived to get points, but she never bothered. When I asked again if she had, she said that since I booked with Expedia, I wouldn't get any points, so she didn't want to look up my account, and then turned her back on me. Extremely rude. This was probably the worst Embassy Suites experience I've ever had, and I wouldn't recommend it. Parking alone was 5$0 dollars right beside the hotel. If it weren't for a nice Russian lady we met there who gave us water in the room, I would have given this hotel 1 star.

Our room was clean however there were stains on the floor, fold out couch had a thin flat mattress, paint drips on the wall paper, and would not close all the way.

It was great!
