The Francis Marion Hotel

Location was fantastic, close to theatres, restaurants, cafes shopping area etc. Close to public transport with bus stop close by. Room clean and comfortable, bathroom on small side but it has to be appreciated this is a historic building. Tea and coffee available in the lobby area with a selected window up until 10 am. Cold refreshment and cookies from 4 pm also in the lobby area which is a really nice touch and a great space to sit in and relax. No tea making facilities provided and unable to have a kettle in our room.

When I return to Charleston, the Francis Marion is where I will be staying!

First, the hotel is beautiful and in a great location for walking around seeing the sites. The Swamp Fox restaurant food was some of the best we had during the trip and the staff there went above and beyond for our entire meal. I only took one star down for the hotel in general because the bathrooms are almost impossibly small for an average size person, and my husband is a big guy. Since we were only there for one night we opted to wait until we got back to our original destination to shower and clean up. Otherwise, we had a great room with a beautiful view, and the hotel made our trip that much more memorable!

From the moment we pulled up in our car to the front entrance, we were greeted by help staff and valet service. The interior of this historic hotel is beautiful and welcoming. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again and can highly recommend it.

Beautiful hotel in great location. Only issue is there was construction right outside room window that started before 7 am each day. Inside hotel was quiet

The girl that checked me in was super sweet. The bartender that served the afternoon cocktail hour was also fabulous! Beautiful hotel right in the middle of everything. Was sad I didn’t book a longer trip.

The restaurant (The Swamp Fox) was excellent in every way - food always well prepared, one novel dish, etc.. The staff was unfailingly polite and helpful (one parking valet was new at the job and being mentored - no problem). The plumbing was fine, especially for a relatively old property - almost instant, very hot water, etc.. Decor was pleasant throughout. The passenger elevators did become slow mid-morning between check-outs and tourists going to meet the ferry and other boats (hint - take a car going the opposite direction you want to go if that's all there is). Valet parking was smooth and timely. The hotel's central location downtown made walking to various attractions very practical. I had breakfast and supper in the restaurant, twice each: everything was fine. Bathroom a bit small but adequate.

Really nice and close to everything

However, I asked for a quiet room, and the front desk person assured me that the room had no noise. But we could not sleep at night! The loud noise of the outside huge commercial AC units was constant and unbearable. At 1 am I finally called the front desk, and a nice young man changed a room for us, We moved and went to sleep around 2 am , but woke up at 7 because of a very loud now construction noise outside. The back side rooms of the hotel are not good if you want to sleep at night. The hotel has a nice restaurant. Our waitress, Silvia, was superb!

Staff was excellent and the historic hotel is holding up pretty well. There are scuffs in the hotel elevator and some minor signs of age in the hallways and room but the price is fair considering all that. Our room was very clean and quiet. Our bed was very comfortable and the shower was wonderful.

Every time we visit Charleston this is the hotel we stay at. Beautiful older hotel with southern charm and convenient with lots to do in the surrounding area.
