Best Western University Lodge

We liked the comfortable bedding, the location, the breakfast the following morning. The only thing we could think of was the state of the parking lot. This Best Western is a Motel on the lower level and we loved being able to roll up to our room door. However, there was a lot of remodeling work happening on site and the parking lot showed it with all kinds of debris (bits of sheet rock, metal, construction dust). We are confident that as the work finishes, the place will get a thorough cleaning.

The location was right next to UC Davis, so it was very convenient. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was clean and updated. The air-conditioning in the room was very strong. The little kitchenette met our need for one night. The air-conditioning unit in the room was fairly loud, and it woke us up several times during the night. We had spoken to the evening supervisor about our early departure the next morning, and we asked if we could get coffee 1 hour earlier than the normal hours for breakfast. He stated that we would have to contact the person on for the overnight shift. Normally guests expect staff to communicate early departures, etc. among themselves but not in this case. Anyway, there were some surprises next morning as staff had no idea about our request. The individual working that shift was surprised and grumpy about being bothered. This is so unusual. We recommend that you put in writing any early morning requests for staff so they are prepared. FYI!!!!

The location was wonderful. I was able to easily stroll through town and to the arboretum. The room was very clean, and the property and location felt safe. Staff was friendly and welcoming, also.

Very good breakfast, could have benefitted from a few less sugary options. The room was clean, ample, and comfortable. It was also relatively quiet -- one night I heard a crying child through the wall, but ws able to sleep well without loud noises. Fee parking, great location. Just the breakfast options as noted above.

The room was clean but infested with bugs. I searched high and low but couldn’t find any bugs but the big red welts that scratch like hell told the story of my stay. After I got home I threw everything in the wash so as not to bring any of those bugs into my house. The lack of empathy at the front desk that I found most annoying. Not even we’re sorry that you just paid $230 (first night) + $120 (Expedia second night) only to donate blood to bugs and itch like hell. He just didn’t care at all. Hopefully they fumigate the room so the next person doesn’t have to get bit and can enjoy their stay.

Check-in/check-out was easy. Desk clerks were friendly. Room was clean and location was convenient to stores and restaurants. Wifi went out for a little over 24 hours so no ability to watch TV. Air conditioner in room seemed to be really struggling to keep room cool. Housekeeping staff knocked and immediately entered without announcing themselves or waiting for a response, 3 different times on our 2nd day, didn't clean the room at all the next day, and knocked/entered twice before checking out time twice on our last day.

Complimentary breakfast was great. They had toast, eggs, bacon, sausage and waffles. Morning staff were friendly and attentive.

The best western University Lodge front desk help we’re all fantastic. We left some jewelry in our room we called and they found it and gave it to us when we were passing back through Davis after a wedding in Big Sur.

Breakfast was good and a value Exterior needs upgrade. Upstairs walkway had loose stone. While not a problem for some it will be for someone. In the area between 353 and 357? Need a cappichino or latte coffee option.

My husband got bed bug bites. Three in a row on his arm in two different spots. After I sprayed the beds down with 91% alcohol. The room for the most part appeared clean. We just needed a place to crash for one night however it’s a a 2 star hotel

Our 1st room was very clean and ready to go, the only minor flaw was the bathroom door was not locking and closing properly. I addressed the issue with the front desk employee and she fixed the problem by switching us to another new room. A work order was placed for the repairment done the following day.
