The Junction Hotel and Hostel

We knew we were booking a hostel and did not expect luxury. We did expect basic maintenance, reliable utilities, functional electrical outlets, and a room that felt reasonably clean and safe. Unfortunately, our stay included an overwhelming cleaning-product odor; damaged, patched and deteriorating surfaces throughout the room; rust/corrosion; poorly maintained bathroom fixtures; an outlet near the sink that would not even hold a plug; and another outlet area that appeared loose. We had to unplug the microwave simply to charge our phone. We also temporarily had no running water when my husband attempted to shower. The bathroom exhaust fan was extraordinarily loud—honestly, it sounded like a 747 preparing to land. My husband removed a bug from the room on our first day, and I found another bug in the bed the following day. I cannot identify what kind of insect it was, but finding one in the bed was obviously concerning. Chromecast was advertised, but attempting to connect produced 27 different devices with no indication which belonged to our room. Options included four “Attic” devices, a garage, basement, patio, park, and two room numbers—neither of which was ours—so we gave up. The advertised seasonal pool was completely covered and unavailable during our late-August stay. The nearby creek, while understandably very low because of dry conditions, also had a strong odor that smelled like sewage during our visit. We paid $224 for our stay. I don't expect an older hostel to be luxurious, but there is a difference between an older property with character and one that appears poorly maintained. We love Durango and will return. We simply won't stay at this property again.

The location was very good and the room larger and very clean The staff was not very pleasant or helpful, the general appearance of the place was run down and the bed was old and lumpy.

The Location was nice and quiet. AC worked prefect and heater not so well. Everything was great.

Good price for Durango No ice Couldn’t get into laundry room because I checked in after four or five and for some reason it wasn’t open in the morning and I couldn’t find anybody to get it open

This was a dive! Booked so we could use the pool, but it was broken. It’s located on a very busy street that is very loud. Building is old, lots of stains and that “we tried to cover up the smoke smell”. Our toilet ran, there were cockroaches. The fridge was way too small and gross and the microwave was old and dirty. I wanted to save money but trusted the pictures…. Never again. Also, if a pool is broken, update your website and let guests know ahead of time. Often we book because of these amenities. The common area was not well amended and staff was not helpful at all. I added photos of what it REALLY looks like. Do not book here.

Floor in room was sticky. TV did not work. Someone came into our room unannounced and unplugged the refrigerator so that the stuff in the freezer melted. nice area for walking a dog right along a creek. not far from the high school and the path along the Animas River.

Not fancy but reasonably comfortable and clean for the price. Pretty much what you expect from a hostel-type place.

I had a bed to sleep in after a long drive. After hours service was good.

No pool although advertised as having one. Ice machine out of order. Air conditioner didn’t work. Parking lot is like a mine field. Would not recommend this place.

How easy the checkout process was and the air conditioning, although it felt like it had one setting and that was cold. A little outdated for the room I was in, I know when someone else was showering and having the water on the water would makes it way through the floor cracks in the bathroom

The night staff was amazing, the busted up bed, not so much. We didn't notice it when we checked in and went out on the town for the night. When we got back we sadly found out the bed was busted and the worst night sleep followed. Other than that it was alright
