Southernmost Beach Resort and Guesthouses

My wife and I stayed here for 8 days/7nights for our honeymoon and the staff conveniently forgot to mention the absurd "Resort Fees" that slammed us for an almost $600 AFTER we arrived home. Resort fees were never once disclosed to us, and the whole charge seemed to be a sneaky way to extort travelers out of more money. The resort was nothing special anyways, and I would highly recommend staying elsewhere to avoid these sneaky scams that this place is running.

They did not clean the private beach, so there were mounds of rotting sea grass. Not only was the beach completely unavailable, you could smell the rot at the restaurant and in the rooms across the street - even down the street! While there aren't beaches on the other side of the island, you don't have the seagrass at the marina. And the other side is more convenient to excursions. Some employees were nicer than others. Some just silently helped me with no words at all - like I was a bother. Others were fantastic - friendly, supportive, offering help outside the scope of their job. Overall, everything was pretty hit or miss...so it added up to just ok.

The resort had a lot of amenities and the staff was helpful. The elevator wasn’t working and it was difficult to get around the facility without it. Also the ceiling was extremely loud and we could not use it. Additional the air conditioner was not working properly and it stayed hot the majority of the time.

Stayed in one of the Guesthouses on duval street, had a nice little pool right outside our room. Quick walk down the street and you're at the Southernmost point

My only “complaint” and it’s not really a big deal: the cleaning service showed up around 3pm each day which was right at the time we were relaxing before pool/dinner. Asked them to come in the morning but never did.

This practice feels like a scam. The hotel didn't have to pay anyone extra to prepare my room early, so why should I have to pay to enter the room a few hours sooner? Most reputable hotels allow you to check in early if your room is ready. It seems this hotel is simply trying to take advantage of travelers who arrive with luggage and don’t want to carry it around until check-in time. Because of this experience, I would not choose to stay at the Southernmost Beach Resort again.

Plus side, rooms were clean, landscaping was neat, and housekeeping will open your door even with a privacy sign on the door.

Our plane was delayed due to weather so we weren’t able to check in until the following morning and were told there wasn’t a room available because they booked our room to someone else when we didn’t check in on the first day. Although I booked and paid for the room 2 months in advance. Manager was rude

The overpowering pungent smell from rotting sargassum should have been advertised. Couldn't use the beach. Permeated the room. Made our experience unbearable. Our room was more of a motel style. Loud with slamming doors and people/housekeeping walking by. Rooster crowing all night. Ants and other bugs in the bathroom. Fan only worked with light on. Lamp turned off and on randomly. Asked to move to a quieter room, was told nothing available. Apparently when booking through a "third-party" allows them to ignore you. Old and dated. Would definitely do your research and not be fooled by the pictures and description. We ended up moving to a resort on gulf side and was amazing.

The gal at check-in did not explain things clearly was unable to give answers to any situations that arose that were not typical on the daily check-in. There was a language barrier and no supervisor or help on duty to complete the check-in process smoothly. We were charged a $800 hold fee on our credit card that we did not know was going to happen. Dirty underwear found under the refrigerator.

Beware the property will want to collect a $1,400 hold for incidentals. They claimed it was due to being booked through Expedia. We booked through Expedia last year at the same property and the hold was only 15% of the stay. They could not clearly explain why it was $1,400, which was over half of what we even paid for the week. Bad service experience at check in and the girl did not seem to have a clue what was going on.

There were ants all over the room. When I notified the front desk, she said she would have housekeeping come right away. They never showed up, ever. Beware of the multiple hidden fees including the $65 daily "amenity" fee which included use of the private beach (that you really couldn't use because of the sargassum) and the $50 daily fee to park your car there(like really-where else can you park??) There was a lamp that didn't work and the AC blew right on you while sleeping(12 inches from bed-if that)-no way to turn the vent because it was broken. Sorry -dont mean to sound petty but when you pay that kind of money you expect things to work and you definitely do not expect ants to be crawling all over everything!? I've spent way less for way nicer places.

King room was no better than a Motel 6, we had to upgrade to keep from ruining our vacation. None of the ice machines ever had ice, furniture inside and outside is very worn. Super disappointed in the property. Our 7th year in a row and we put this stay at the very bottom!

We enjoyed our stay for a weekend but the smell of the water ruined it for me. Not the hotels fault at all. We loved the pool and drinks. Bartender was great. Room was a nice size. Couldn’t enjoy the balcony due to the smell.
