Candlewood Suites Newark South - University Area by IHG

Very convenient to many things and only 10 minutes from my mom’s home. Very clean, only had 3 nights of someone running around up above us, but all in all very good.

The major disappointment was the request on arrival for our daughter's room to be on the same floor as our room. The one originally allocated was miles from us on a low floor. That proved possible albeit we accepted a lower appointed room on the same floor to do so but it gave us some comfort. The rooms had been pre-paid at a high rate (being graduation rate) but at the end of the stay, the hotel charged our credit card without notice an additional 3 nights charge for the room my daughter moved to giving no credit for the better quality room she had vacated, Several emails to the hotel and IHG have to date produced no response whatsoever. No apology, no explanation - just silence. Hence the low mark in this review, Perhaps the hotel with read this review and get in touch. I'm over $1000 out of pocket at the time this was posted. Just disappointing from IHG, a hotel group we have used but who we'll be avoiding going forward. Travelers will no doubt form their own views.

We tried to check in but we were told there were no rooms. So we were turned away. Wound up staying at an Embassy Suites instead.

Location. The staff was great. It was run down. Our first suite had a leaking fridge. The second one, the bathroom vanity was a mess, the bathroom door would not shut, there wasn’t any bath soap. The curtain in the sitting area was torn. The “leather” desk chair was peeling. It was worn out.

Great spot

No need to waste time searching for other hotels and specials. You won’t find better. Scott

Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly, rooms were a decent size and the full size kitchen was fully stocked. Beds were comfortable and overall our stay was excellent. No fault of the hotel itself but it is adjacent to a more seedy motel. We didn’t experience any bleed over in the parking lot but it’s possible.

Size of room was nice. Comfortable bed. Large bathroom and shower. First room had a broken hinge on the bathroom door and it couldn't be shut. Moved to another room and noicrowave, but it was our last night so we just did without it.

Staff was wonderful really friendly and did they best they could Room was not good ..not really clean...bed was uncomfortable and the tv stations for the satellite was out more than in...

Staff was very friendly and helpful and location was close to event I was attending. My room had bugs! I am not sure if it was because room wasnt clean or if it was because my room was on side with grass outside. Family members had rooms on opposite side of hotel and they didnt see bugs.

I didn’t stay for more than 24 hrs so didn’t need any help. The staff was friendly at the desk. Rooms were outdated and you could hear people in o ther rooms. Would not go back.

Room was clean but had a funny smell.

No breakfast offered at this facility. Had to leave premises for breakfast. I needed an accessible room due to mobility issues. The first room we were given on the first floor was wonderful! The reason I had to leave was my inability to step into the tub. I needed a walk-in shower. WE were then given a room on the fifth floor. It was horrible compared to the first room - like night and day! The room was half the size of the first one. There was a hole in the wall with no door for a closet - the first room had a big closet with doors. You didn't even have room to hang your clothes without touching the dirty floor. The shower was the worst. The small rail that supposedly kept the water in was rusted and pulled away from the frame. The shower head was placed for a person in a seated position. If you moved the shower head, water squirted everywhere. The floor was filled with water by the time I got out; the bath mat was drenched and so was the floor. The microwave was so difficult to use, we had to get help. This room was a big disappointment.
