Conveniently located in the heart of Phoenix, well priced but definitely older. Most of the rooms face a large open area around the elevator. Plus, there’s virtually no sound insulation on the doors, so unfortunately you hear a lot of noise from the rooms. There’s not really a resting area in the lobby or any place to hang out outside of your room, so that’s a big disadvantage compared to other hotels. The pool was under construction, and it looks like it’s been that way for a The pool was under construction and it looks like it’s been that way for a long time. It’s too bad because it would be a nice hangout spot. Other than that, the old hotel has its charm. The rooms are small but cozy.

It's a good thing that it was a million degrees in Phoenix because there was NO HOT WATER.
-
Loved the history of it.
-
It’s vintage for a reason. Expect outdated amenities.
-
Older property but well maintained and clean. Great location.

There is no parking at the hotel but just behind the property there is a parking garage which was very dirty and had questionable people around it. San Carlos is clean inside but the outside is dirty on the sidewalks thst is probably out of their control. The rooms are well maintained with outdated furniture and the TV only has local channels. We had called the lobby for extra blankets because it was very cold in the room that has no thermostat. We also called the lobby for spoons or forks which the hotel did not have gor the guest. No refrigerator in the room or microwave but there is a small coffee maker in the room with sugar packets no cream available. I would give a higher rating is all these things were provided. The staff were also friendly.
