California Dreams Hostel - Pacific Beach

The beds have a metal panel separating them from each other. If you touch them just barely they make a loud sound like a crashing cymbal, wakes up everyone in the room. The ladder to the upper bunk is round metal bars. Easy to climb with shoes, hard to do in bare feet or socks. Would be great if they had actual flat steps like a real stepladder. Breakfast was good (bagels & cereal), but often ran out of juice and almond milk after 9am.

Really nice coffee and nice to have blinds for each bed. Staff where nice and decent prices for renting bikes, surfing and such. Also great location. The toilet and shower facilities werent the cleanest my first night but were very clean the morning after. The beds are very soft although I didnt mind it.

Good if you enjoy waking up to puke on the floor.

The beds have curtains for better privacy. Fairly easy parking, continental breakfast included bagels & cream cheese, cereal with almond milk. Staff was friendly and helpful. Shower leaks, doesn’t shut off completely. Breakfast ran out of milk and juice by 9:30am one day. Only 1 shower/toilet next to the bedroom, although there’s another 2 doors down. Upper bunk ladder is difficult to use with bare feet, I wish it had wider and flat steps instead of small round bars.

A total scam. My girlfriend and I booked a private room for a night, and it was a terrible experience. The room was located right behind the front desk, ridiculously small, and badly furnished with an old bunk bed and a shelf. There was even a huge pipe running right through the room. Since the walls were paper-thin, we could literally hear everything happening in the lobby until late into the night. At some point, we decided to pack up and find another hotel because we simply could not sleep. We asked the receptionist for a refund, and he guaranteed us that we would get our money back within three business days. We have now been waiting for three weeks and have called several times, only to be given the runaround by several receptionists who pretended the manager would give us a call back. Avoid this hostel; it is just a scam.

Vey good location, decent breakfast Wasn't super clean, only two restrooms for a capacity of 30 people, overall quite expensive for what you're getting

The staff were so nice and friendly, everything was clean and the overall vibe was just chill and laid back. Perfect for a weekend getaway to spend time on the beach. Tons of great restaurants and activities nearby to keep you entertained all day. The bathroom situation was a little difficult to deal with since there are only two toilets and it can get busy.

Note that there is only one bathroom (shower included, so it's not possible to have one person shower while another uses the bathroom) for the dorm of 14 people. I never had an issue conflicting with anybody, but just know that there's only one bathroom. There are 2 sinks outside the bathroom, though.

Location and lounge area

Excellent stay! Very good for travelers, vanlifers, etc. Perfect access to the beach. Highly recommend! Nothing. Everything was good.

This was a laid back place to stay. Right by the beach which was fantastic! The bathroom was nice and big. The bunkers had curtains and apx 14 beds total in one very narrow and long room. There was a bit of a locker room smell near one bunk (thankfully not near mine!) but clearly that was an individual, not the hostel. Big kitchen to use and room to hang out. Nice and helpful staff.
