Quiet room, Clean Room, AC worked well

I had a private room. The room was clean. The shared bathroom was clean. The front desk employees were rude.

Issue at check in that was handled wasn’t properly documented so the following staff in morning was a big mess on trying to get it fixed.

For a hostel, it was definitely one of the better ones...we had a private room and it was clean and comfortable. A big plus is that they have a good amount of restrooms/showers on each floor/hall, so you never had to wait long. Great dining area. Convenient to everything downtown. So it was actually very good for a hostel, I don't have any criticism of the hostel itself, I just didn't like being in downtown san diego....parking is an issue if you have a car, expect to pay $20 for overnight garage. Lots of homeless folks around.

    The rooms

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Location is outstanding. Good value. Kitchen was well suited for short or long term stay—this is not always the case for hostels. Shower door did not close. Reported to staff. They offered to move but we were already settled in. Vending machine out of order.

Located right in downtown with easy access to everything, and super close to the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The staff was warm and friendly, always ready to help out with any questions. All the common areas, hallways, and lounges were clean and well-kept. The room, bathroom, and amenities were neat and clean, and the bed was fresh and comfortable. They offer free, secure luggage storage for large bags. Inside the dorm rooms, each person gets a small personal locker for their belongings (just remember to bring your own padlock). **Drawback:** Check-in is strictly at 3:00 PM. If you arrive early and exhausted, you can't check in or wait inside—you have to leave and come back at 3:00 PM, which is a bit frustrating. **A couple of suggestions for management:** 1. Consider repainting the wooden walls inside the elevator or covering them with a nice poster. Right now, it gives off a worn-down vibe and makes the building look older than it is. 2. Installing security cameras inside the shared dorm rooms would be a great addition. It would give guests extra peace of mind and improve the overall experience. Thank you so much!

    I love this place.

If you end up on a wall attached to construction it would be miserable. It was non-stop 7AM-4PM and so loud earplugs didn't work and it shook the room. Thankfully they were able to move me to another room and construction was not an issue after that.

Would have loved to stay longer in the end, as they had lots of actually cool events to see and explore and get to know people - which would have been really nice!

Offered private rooms, great kitchen available for cooking/storing food. Did not know this hostel is located over a cigar bar. Very faint smells of cigar are lingering on my clothes, even after I washed everything. Staff were exceptionally strict about showing pass/ID to enter.

Bottom line is I would stay again in the same circumstances.

    Clean room and AC

  • Engine customer Jul 2026

This was my first time trying out a hostel after a lifetime of hotels and Airbnb’s and I absolutely LOVED it!!! My bed was more comfortable than my mattress at home, despite it being a twin bunk bed. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need (except the food/ingredients. Obviously you buy that yourself). Shower’s were nice and warm. Had a bit of a locker room smell but it’s easily ignored. Common room was spacious and all the guests were kind. 10/10 would recommend again if you want to save some money and have some independence.

The room was excellent and the whole place was excellent with the right amount of everything. The nighborhood has grocery stores, drug stores, some restaurants and is a short walk to the train station. The hostel has free coffeee and tea available, a b=nice kitchen and fridges for your food etc. The only thing thats a little annoying is that this is the Gaslamp area and it is a party area expecially on the weekends. I think there are some rooms that are off the main street so if you are noise sensitive and staying on the weekend be advised. The front desk does provide ear plugs if they cant get you into a more quiet room.
