The hotel does charge a Resort Fee and while these are questionable anywhere, one aspect of the fee is a $10 reduction in food bills per room per day which incentivised us to take breakfast in the hotel, which we found excellent - high quality ingredients, attentive and friendly staff and plenty of choice. The Top of the Rock bar and restaurant also feature stunning views and we enjoyed a drink in the evening there. Once again, friendly service, which was attentive, but not overly. One caution is that this hotel is at Nob Hill and as the name suggests, it’s on a hill! Keep this in mind for on foot journeys as the walk home will be uphill!

Wonderful hotel. I would recommend to anyone. Amazing location.

The room lacked even the most basic amenities. There was no coffee maker, no complimentary bottled water, and the minibar/refrigerator was locked, so we couldn’t even store our own food or drinks. When we asked the staff, we were told they were planning to replace the refrigerator, but no alternative was provided. The biggest concern was the bathroom. We noticed several black spots around the shower area that appeared to be mold. We reported this multiple times. The staff insisted it was the granite, but the spots were only present around the shower and shampoo niche, not throughout the rest of the stone, so that explanation did not seem convincing. More importantly, the communication was very poor. After reporting the issue, no one ever followed up with us to explain what had been done or reassure us that the bathroom was safe. Each time, we had to go back to the front desk ourselves to ask for an update. Overall, the level of service and the condition of the room did not match the price of the hotel. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend staying here.

Located in a very good area of San Francisco. However, the staff is rude, not helpful, and condescending. Not the kind of service you would expect from the Intercontinental!!!

Beautiful historic hotel. Great location with friendly, helpful staff. Bed was very comfortable. Loved enjoying a cocktail at The Top of the Mark.

Historic property that unfortunately has become quite dated and now is a little rundown.

We have stayed here many times, always requesting a room with a view of the Grace Cathedral and Golden Gate Bridge. The views are stunning. The only improvement could be cleaner windows. Ours were almost too dirty to see out of. the same was true of the wonderful bar, Top of the Mark. Again, high fives to both the room, its cleanliness, and especially the housekeeping staff who always seemed to know when we came and went. The food and drinks and service at the bar were excellent, pricey as you would expect for the location. The morning buffet was also excellent with a full range of hot and cold food items. Service was excellent. During our stay the hotel had repeated problems with an elevator, at times being down to one for 17 floors. Hopefully, they will fix this. The hotel is located at the top of Nob hill with numerous public transit options in all directions, including the iconic cable cars. The hotel also arranged a car service for us to go to the airport, putting the bill, tax and tip on our room. Nice. We plan on staying here again on our next trip.

Clean and friendly staff

It’s a beautiful historic hotel with a fantastic location and staff. We loved our stay and would return. However there are things I wish I’d know beforehand. Most importantly, there is a line to use elevators in the evenings, especially on weekends due to patrons of Top of the Mark. The wall paper was peeling in places and the bathroom water faucet wouldn’t turn off. Could use better maintenance but it is 100.

Loved the old hotel and the Top of the Mark. The view is unreal. The hotel was centrally located for what we needed to do.

The hotel surpassed all my expectations. The staff was welcoming and accommodating right from the moment we checked in. The room was clean. The breakfast selection was great. The view from our room and from The Top Of The Mark were Spectacular.

great place to stay. definitely will come back to this hotel in the future
-
Great location, lovely iconic hotel near cable car and central to Union Square.

Only 1 dressing gown in room that wasn’t replaced once used Expensive room service delivery charge

I love the style of the building. The beds were comfortable and room service was great. It’s a great place to stay. It would be nice if elevator service was faster, but that said, I keep coming back.
-
The front desk was not helpful . The staff seemed unhappy . No smiles. The hotel was very old and run down. The furniture in the room were broken. The bathroom was super small and the sink was leaking with patches of wallpaper glued to the wall I order to coverup damages.

However, when we arrived at approximately 2:00 PM, the front desk agent informed us that early check-in was “absolutely not” possible and that we would need to wait until the standard 4:00 PM check-in time, despite our prior requests. This was particularly disappointing because we had originally requested a 12:00 PM check-in and were led to believe arrangements had been made. The agent then stated that we were receiving a complimentary room upgrade with a view. In reality, we had already paid for a room category that included a city view. Furthermore, we had specifically hoped for a view toward the North Bay, but were instead assigned a room overlooking the city to the south. Presenting this as a complimentary upgrade felt misleading and created the impression that the hotel was providing an added benefit when, in fact, it was not. as a high-end hotel, it is concerning to encounter staff who appear either inadequately trained or willing to make misleading representations to guests. Greater transparency, better customer service, and more accurate communication would significantly improve the guest experience. The extra $40 resort fee that they charge was never disclosed to us. We request this to be refunded by Expedia pls as it was anther deceiving detail left out.
